  1. Hype for the Future 169E: Is Florida Caribbean?

Introduction Society often expects the State of Florida to be described as a peninsular state with the Gulf of Mexico to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east, but why? Isn’t there also the Caribbean Sea in the area? Caribbean Definition Usually, the Caribbean refers to the insular areas of the Caribbean Sea and not to the mainland. These are often independent nations, though dependencies and overseas territories are also associated with the region. Sometimes, even the South […]

  7. #Trump Calls His Enemies Terrorists. Does That Mean He Can Just Kill Them?

From boat strikes to killings in the streets of Minnesota to NSPM-7, the White House leans on the word “terror” to justify its violence.

    Nick Turse, February 2 2026

" '#Terrorist' is the word that the Trump administration employs to describe the victims of its most egregious acts of #StateViolence.

"President Donald Trump has used the word 'terrorist' to justify the #ExtrajudicialKillings of civilians in the #CaribbeanSea and #PacificOcean. And his deputies used it to explain away the killings of #AlexPretti and #ReneeGood in Minneapolis by federal agents.

" 'Earlier this morning, on my Orders, U.S. Military Forces conducted a kinetic strike against positively identified Tren de Aragua #NarcoTerrorists,' Trump wrote following the initial boat strike on September 2, 2025. He said the attack 'occurred while the terrorists were at sea in International waters.'

"Secretary of Homeland Security #KristiNoem said that Good and Pretti were guilty of '#DomesticTerrorism.' And top White House adviser #StephenMiller used similar language to describe both.

"These killings were conducted thousands of miles apart by different agencies in very different contexts. But the connection between them could be more than semantic."

  12. Good morning. ☀️🌤️🌥️

    24 January 2025

A storm is coming. I mean literally—a storm is coming. In fact, I think it might already be here. It’s still above freezing where I am, but the weather app says sleet for the next hour. I don’t see it yet, not exactly, but it’s supposed to get colder as the day goes on, with precipitation throughout the afternoon and evening. Ha—yes, I meant precipitation, but sometimes I like to use the wrong word just to keep things human. Speaking of participation, I think we’re right near the southern edge of that massive system sweeping through the center of the country today. It would be nice if we opted out of the precipitation promised for today and tomorrow.

The last ice storm we had was three or four years ago, and the power was out for nearly a week. We had a generator, but there was a snafu with the gas company, so getting the tank refilled was a challenge. We lost water service as well, even though we’re not on a well. Hmm. That joke didn’t land well. These days, we’re sort of prepared. We’ve got a generator and a full, larger propane tank to keep the electricity going. We go through a lot just to avoid struggling through events like this. I guess you could say we struggle not to struggle.

Anyway, I don’t think non-participation is an option this time. The sky is supposed to perspire all day and all night—and then do it all over again tomorrow. Fortunately, the forecast says we won’t hit freezing until Sunday morning. That’s when the real trouble starts.

  13. Hype for the Future 75E: The Caribbean Netherlands Explained

  14. The List of Countries #Trump Is Threatening With War Keeps Growing

President Donald Trump campaigned on the promise of getting out of foreign wars. He keeps talking about starting more of them.

by Jonah Valdez, January 6 2026

"President Donald Trump, the self-proclaimed 'Peace President,' detonated his own #AmericaFirst campaign promise of '#NoNewWars' over the weekend with an act of war in Venezuela.

The U.S. military attacked Venezuela early Saturday morning, abducting its leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, who now face narco-terrorism charges in a New York federal court. Eighty Venezuelan and Cuban citizens were killed by U.S. gunfire and airstrikes.

"At least one U.S. missile struck an apartment building in the port city of Catia La Mar, killing an 80-year-old woman as she slept, seriously injuring another and displacing residents, according to The Associated Press. Trump described the attack as 'successful' and 'perfectly executed.'
A growing number of legal experts and lawmakers have called Saturday’s bombing of Venezuela and the abduction of Maduro illegal under both international law and the U.S. Constitution.

"And yet, the Trump administration is already threatening further military action against Venezuela and other sovereign nations in pursuit of his so-called '#DonroeDoctrine,' the refashioning of the 1823 #MonroeDoctrine, which American leaders with #imperialist ambitions have used to justify #USOccupations across #LatinAmerica throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.

" 'Under our new national security strategy, American dominance in the Western Hemisphere will never be questioned again,' Trump said Saturday at a press conference following the attack on Venezuela. 'Under the Trump administration, we are reasserting American power in a very powerful way in our home region.'

"Though Trump campaigned on the promise of ending foreign wars, even before the attack on Venezuela, his second term has been defined by a ruthless and interventionist approach.
He has already ordered military strikes in #Iran, #Iraq, #Nigeria, #Somalia, #Syria and #Yemen. Before abducting Maduro, the U.S. military attacked a Venezuelan port, and killed more than 100 civilians in bombings in the #CaribbeanSea and #PacificOcean. In addition, Trump continues to arm #Israel as it violates the ceasefire with Hamas, grinding the #genocide in #Gaza into a third year.
Mere hours before the U.S. bombed Venezuela on Saturday, Trump threatened to attack Iran over its violent crackdowns on protesters, writing on social media that the U.S. is 'locked and loaded and ready to go.'

"And since carrying out Venezuela raid, the Trump administration has taken aim at Cuba and #Colombia, hinted at intervention in #Mexico, renewed annexation aspirations in #Greenland, and reiterated threats to Iran."

  15. Island in the Haze

This is a hazy coastal view of one end of a Caribbean island—likely Roatán, though I’d need to pin down the dates to be sure. The land extends from the right side of the frame, curving gently into the sea. Buildings cluster near the shoreline, modest and scattered, with white foamy waves brushing the coast below. The scene is quiet, softened by mist and distance, where land, water, and memory meet in a muted palette.

My photo gallery features over 1400 carefully selected images. While most are chosen for their visual appeal, a few stand out as novelty shots. Feel free to explore my gallery at:

  19. "Since September, the Trump administration has conducted an undeclared war in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean, killing scores of civilians. The Intercept is chronicling all publicly declared U.S. attacks and providing a tracker with information on each strike.

The administration insists the attacks are permitted because the U.S. is engaged in “non-international armed conflict” with “designated terrorist organizations,” or DTOs. President Donald Trump has justified the attacks, in a War Powers report to Congress, under his Article II constitutional authority as commander in chief of the U.S. military and claimed to be acting pursuant to the United States’ inherent right of self-defense as a matter of international law. The Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel has also produced a classified opinion that provides legal cover for the lethal strikes.

Experts in the laws of war and members of Congress, from both parties, say the strikes are illegal extrajudicial killings because the military is not permitted to deliberately target civilians — even suspected criminals — who do not pose an imminent threat of violence. The summary executions are a significant departure from standard practice in the long-running U.S. war on drugs, in which law enforcement agencies arrested suspected drug smugglers.

The Pentagon has repeatedly withheld information on the attacks from members of Congress and the American public, despite mounting questions from lawmakers about the legality of these deadly strikes.

So The Intercept is publishing a strike tracker documenting America’s newest war."

  20. Where the Sky Broods

This is a seascape—an image of the Caribbean Sea or perhaps the Gulf of Mexico; I don’t quite remember. The sky glows gold, casting a surreal light over the dark water below. Wispy clouds drift overhead, adding texture to the scene. The original photograph was badly overexposed, and truth be told, I don’t recall taking it.

This is a seascape—likely the Caribbean, though it might be the Gulf of Mexico. The water stretches endlessly, dark and solemn, a vast expanse without interruption. Overhead, the sky is heavy and overcast, yet a dim, persistent light presses through the cloud cover, casting a muted glow across the ocean’s surface. Low, brooding clouds drift just above the water, and far in the distance, a curtain of rain descends, soft and spectral.

  24. St. Vincent Sunset

    https://youtu.be/JkwmNK5QSDk

As the sun sets over the majestic Caribbean Sea, the sky is painted with layers of beautiful oranges, pinks, and yellows. The silhouettes of the trees dotting the shoreline are a reminder of the island’s tropical beauty. The water sparkles in its own light as the waves roll endlessly onto the shore. The beauty of the sunset is a fantastic sight to behold.

The warm air carries the scent of the sea and the surrounding greenery. The sound of the waves and the evening breeze invites you to take it all in. Watching the sunset over St. Vincent and the Grenadines makes you feel at one with nature and its wonders.

As the night draws in, the horizon slowly disappears. You gently drift away with an awe-inspiring thought; that no matter how much the world changes, the beauty of St. Vincent will remain the same.
