Nevşehir (="New City" in Turkish) was settled by the Hittites in the 16th c BCE as Nissa. Located in the heart of #Kapadokya, it's the capital of the region of the same name. The modern city (pop~128K) took shape under the Ottomans in the 18th c.

Cave hotel in Cappadocia, Uçhisar by balloon, Derinkuyu underground, Sultan Han, Saruhan and the dervishes, then north to Aybastı Perşembe Yaylası and east along the Black Sea back into Georgia at Batumi. This picks up from our earlier Turkey chapter and gets much stranger, older, and greener.
