Tonttu's patience ran out as I was getting ready for the run, but I think he forgave me! (And the rope burn he gave me was ultimate payback for the wait.)

Shortly after this photo was taken in the calm, cooling waters of a local lake, Tonttu got the MEGA-ZOOMIES, ran a loop around me, and then up the track leading back to the trail we had been running on faster than I've ever seen him run!
I have never seen him so energized, nor so oblivious to anything around him. Unfortunately, he wrapped his lead around my leg in the process. FORTUNATELY I got him to STOP before he hauled me head over heels into the mud!
Aside from rope burn on my left leg, it was a good run! Cooler, drier air of fall is settling in, which means much better for running with the pups!

Yesterday's run at Lebanon Hills was a little hotter and had a LOT more deerflies. Ugh! Dry weather means fewer places to cool off en route, and those that exist have muddy shorelines. But thankfully there's a nice clean lake at the end of our route handy for cleaning off the mud before jumping in the car and making it smell like wet dog!

Back on the trail. Running!
It has been delightfully cool this spring, perfect for the huskies to keep running as things green up around us. I'm still a bit cautious about trail running after previous injuries, but I do hope to keep at it, especially now that my work schedule has lightened up a bit.
Zeena and Tonttu were happy to pick up the pace somewhere other than our neightborhood paths, and to pounce and sniff and get muddy whenever possible.

Quick run with the pups!
It's been warm enough long enough now that most of the snow is melted and ice gone from the pavement. I got one short run in a month ago, and nothing else since last November. Legs feel good, but cardio needs some work!
Crossing the local soccer field (football to the rest of the world), Zeena went into Bouce-and-Rar mode, as she often does there. I tried to catch it on video, but wasn't fast enough with my phone.
But what I did capture was them attempting to clothesline me with the split lead TWICE. I managed to jump-rope over the first time, but decided not to test my luck the second.

A successful return to trail running, finally, since my ankle injury last spring! No new injuries! Felt much better than I expected, and made nearly 10 km!
Huskies had a lot of fun too. We met 1.5 huskies along the way: one very friendly black-and-white Siberian and one white German shepherd-husky cross who was conflicted between play and fight.
It was crisp, and the first time that Tonttu did NOT submerge himself in the water, despite several opportunities! I guess he was cool enough.

Late run when rain turned to snow! Huskies were in their element. My legs feel to be coming back towards their former form. Not there yet, but promising progress!
I love how husky fur is hydrophobic, at least in crystaline form: snow sits on the outer edges of the fur, ready to fly off with just a bit of a shake. If one feels it's worth the bother -- huskies don't mind carrying a dusting of snow with them!
