  1. We presented #CiVers at #CAA2026 in Vienna (Mar 31–Apr 4) with a poster! 🎉
🔍 By combining #WebArchiving change detection, and #metadata extraction, CiVers enables reliable citation of versioned web pages using persistent identifiers (PIDs).
🥅 Our goal: make web-based #research resources citable, traceable, and reproducible.
    Let’s connect! 🤲

  3. Just back from the 53rd CAA conference in Vienna! 🏛️ A packed week – I presented the KIŠIB project, co-organised an archaeogaming session with Aris Politopoulos (10 talks, consistently high quality!), and was impressed by new approaches to automatic cuneiform translation.
The organisation was excellent, and the ice breaker was hard to beat. New blog post with my full report:itsmoreofacomment.com/2026/04/

  5. Last week at #CAA2026 in Vienna, Sebastian Hageneuer presented the database architecture behind the KIŠIB project – Digital Corpus of Ancient West Asian Seals and Sealings.

The talk showed how we link artefacts, images, and texts within a single relational structure – connecting physical seals, their impressions on clay tablets, and the cuneiform inscriptions they accompany.

  7. Yesterday we held the largest Little Minions session at #CAA2026 since we started this in 2018. We were able to host 14 different lightning talks in S2! Wonderful to see all different great tools presented, ranging from AI to reading cuneiform. Archaeological speaking, we have travelled trough time and space. We SPARKQLed with GIS, Linked ideas and merged lines of thought. See 2026.caaconference.org/program/ for the abstracts.
Thank all for sharing their Little Minion during the largest session ever!'

  14. Computational archaeologists – has your model failed verification? Or turned out to be unverifiable? Did you try a new approach that didn’t work? Make a mistake in implementation? Know of a method or tool that has been forgotten?

Join @mattomasini and I at #CAA2026 in Vienna, S16: '“All Models are Wrong”: Learning from Failure in Computational Archaeology'

The call for papers closes this Sunday, 26 October:*

  15. 🕹️ Archaeogaming isn't all fun & games.

At #CAA2026 in Vienna, Aris Politopoulos & I are co-organizing a session on the promises and problems of play in archaeology.

⚖️ Topics: accessibility, ethics, inclusion, critical storytelling, AI tools, XR platforms & more. Whose past gets played? Who gets to play at all?

  18. I plan to propose a "Box's law" session for #CAA2026 (Vienna, 2026.caaconference.org/): calling for papers on models that failed verification, approaches that didn't work, errors in implementation... generally non-successful outcomes in computational #archaeology and what we can learn from them.

Anybody interested in co-organising it with me?
