    Is an author of some really quality work I've read on c4ss.org his book length analysis of rent seeking comparing classical rent seeking to Cory Doctorow's "enshittification" ideas is particularly good. He needs support. So go download his PDF and then send some money his way via liberapay or patreon using links shown on his profile.

  6. Center for a stateless society has a great commentary piece about #UBI

    I actually like the point that's made about how people used to live in larger communal organizations and were more isolated from the need of wage labor, increasing labor bargaining power and this has been systematically dismantled

  11. i highly recommend the newest #MutualExchangeRadio with Christopher Coyne and Abigail Hall on "How to Run Wars". obvious CWs apply, though it focusses mostly on the underlying social mechanics, not the individual acts of cruelty.

  15. speaking of common objections to #anarchy. Roderick Long did a great job adressing those in the first episode of the newest #C4SS podcast:

  20. i've been reading a lot of the "Anarchy and Democracy" symposium on #C4SS recently:

    c4ss.org/content/49206

    some of the preliminary texts are very long. one is like a whole book by David Graeber, another a series of articles on CrimethInc.

    but i think it's worth a look, especially for anarcho-curious.

  24. @clacke #LeftLibertarian groups like #C4SS defines capitalism the way #Marx did, as the use of centralized power to centralize wealth. So they are anti-capitalist, but they define voluntary association in a way that includes trade using currencies. This inherently creates markets of some kind, but their ideal is more like bazaars than the cathedrals of Wall St. Reading a few of the essays in 'Markets not Capitalism' might shed some light:

  25. @salixlucida I generally nod in agreement with most #C4SS stuff, but I'm not sure about this one. Both the format and the rhetoric reminds me of the sort of stuff I used to read in Marxist magazines back in the 90s. Comparing Sanders to a hypothetical ideal - and caricaturing his positions and severely overstating his political flaws in the process - isn't as useful as comparing his policies and voting record to the candidates he's actually running against.

  27. Healthcare For All: An Informal Guide to Creating An Anarchist Medical System #c4ss c4ss.org/content/49932

  28. @trwnh I agree that there's no *pro*-capitalist left. There's a libertarian left that is pro-*market* but anti-capitalist (#C4SS etc). There's a pragmatic social democratic left who accept capitalism (like Hillary) as the "lesser of 2 evils". There are another bunch of left liberals who prefer to avoid arguing about abstractions like "capitalism" and focus on bread-and-butter labour and green like #ZeroHourContracts or #MassExtinction (1/2) ...
    @PaladinQuinn

  29. @alxcndr @gabe @mayel @jjg @vfrmedia there's a significant subsection of the #SoftwareFreedom movement (ESR is an early example) who see "anti-capitalist" and read it as "against what I believe in". Even though it really isn't, for reasons Dymitri explains. Some other folks have tried to bridge the gap with #C4SS.org and 'Markets not Capitalism', ie being anti-capitalist but pro-markets (with an emphasis on the plural, not The Market), but so far that seems to have had limited impact.

  30. @natecull the word was originated by anarchists, mostly USian writers on the more individualist end of the spectrum. I'm not at what point Austrian conservatives started hijacking it, but its ours and I want it back. These days I identify as a "left libertarian" (in the mode of #C4SS), to distinguish myself both from the Austrians, and the leninists and maoists who have started calling themselves "anarchist" as an entryist tactic (or perhaps out of a genuine political identity crisis?)

  31. Anyone familiar with Karl Hess (#KarlHess)? I can't find any free work online (except from #C4SS) but I love everything I've read.
