No hurry to leave AM5 if you're on a 7800X3D like me. AMD's Computex 2026 post extends socket support through 2029. If you do drop in a 9800X3D, the BIOS update is the step that can go wrong: back up first and never shut down or reset while the flash runs. An interrupted flash can leave the board unable to boot. #AMD #BuildAPC

Thinking about the Crosshair X870E Hero for its five M.2 slots? Populate the second and third CPU-connected M.2 and the primary graphics slot can fall to x8, while the second full-length slot changes or disables. Normal on a dense board, but sketch the drive and card map before buying. For one GPU and a couple of drives, the B850 Tomahawk Max WiFi is the board I'd put under a 9800X3D.
