  1. And since I'm already bombing you with #grandma stories, here's a last one, we touched in the last recording of 26 March 2023 as well: The time, she got her reading aid.

I had started managing my "projects" using #GettingThingsDone a few months ago, which made me take her to #Solothurn, the home of our (very likely) ancestor, the painter #FrankBuchser wikitree.com/wiki/Buchser-5 . We stood overnight. I met with some Swiss #Wikipedia folks in the evening. One of them, who was from Solothurn and knew about our interest in the painter joined us for a bit of sightseeing on the next day. He told us about his grandpa and how happy that one was with his electronic reading aid (basically a real-time scanner with a vertically mounted flat-screen monitor and optional voice output).

Grandma also was interested, so I declared it my new "project" and organized a visit from of that company at grandma to bring and show her the device. She was a bit overwhelmed, but gave it a chance.

The next day she nearly starved, because she forgot to cook. After years of not being able to read a thing anymore, she couldn't stop. The whole thing brought back so much quality of life. It cost "a few" thousand Euros and my aunt put of the question if that really still is worth it. Of course it was. She had it for over a decade!

  2. Today's belated #grandma recording contained the first mention grandma's grandma's photo album. She said, it's still in family possession, but when I asked the relative, whose mother reportedly still had it, he told me, that there is no album that matches the description. What a pity, because it apparently contained the only photo of painter Frank #Buchser, the reported father of grandma's grandma. It would have been a tiny bit of proof rather than stories and love letters, that were burnt out of respect for he dead. 😭

  3. Today's #grandma recording mentions a photo album that contained a photo of my 3x great-grandfather, the painter Frank #Buchser wikitree.com/wiki/Buchser-5, for whose paternity I still need the ultimate proof. It went missing at one point, after my 2x great-grandmother had died. Maybe it went to a sister of my great-grandmother, whose daughter-in-law later had the habit of burning "old stuff, nobody needs anymore"😡Once, she apparently also put a Stragula carpet in the oven and lit it up.
