Tottenham Hotspur beat Brentford 2-0 thanks to Vitaly Janelt's own goal and Pape Matar Sarr's late strike to win their first Premier League fixture since beating Southampton 5-0 on December 15th.
Spurs had previously lost six of their last seven Premier League matches, with no side picking up fewer points in that time (one).

The quality of the people and content here is a million times better. It takes more work, but it's so worth it.
I've been putting effort into building the community here around #COYS and the @spurs group. Yesterday was the first proper match day and we used the 'official' #BRETOT tag.
Overall, it's been kinda quiet but quality remains high and more people are trickling in, sticking around, and momentum is building.

In our last game under Conte (against relegation-bound Southampton) we averaged 5 in their half. Under Ange against Brentford in his first competitive game we have only 2 and with every single other position further forward.
Some people say playing this way is naïve. I say it's bold, brave, and commited. A statement of intent. What do you think?

I love how Ange put it re. Richarlison.
"I thought he worked hard today but I felt we didn't use him enough. I thought we could have been a little bit more direct to him and look for him a little bit more."
Great man management there. Ange recognises Richy is a confidence player and the team need to get better at supply. Richarlison not at fault for that. The cutting edge is better teamwork.

Given it's the first real game against a difficult team...
and we had such new, young players making their debut...
and we lost Rom early (which could have really shaken us)...
and given Ange-ball is supposed to take a while to click...
...we were remarkably on-it I thought.
Further along than I dared hope. A long road ahead, but some bright signs.
We did impose ourselves and our style. But need to sharpen the cutting edge.

Player ratings. A better start than I was expecting against a very hard team away. A terrific debut for our new players. Special shout to VDV who without pre-season handled SO MUCH pressure and in game events that could easily have distracted a lesser player. Surprised Premier League commentators also mentioned how fast he is several times. What a start. A shame Son and Richy didn't get into the game.
