  5. Delighted to discover that Reeves Gabrels has been a member of The Cure since 2012. And sitting here now listening to the excellent guitar on Songs Of A Lost World.

Calling out to the #BowieADay people who enjoyed his latter collaborations with Bowie, or who made the diversion into #TinMachine.

  10. Hands up in the air for #TuneTuesday, with #ShowUsYourHands. 👐

The first song that came to mind, probably helped by the recent #BowieADay listening party, was Rock 'n' Roll Suicide, by David Bowie.

It builds up to a crescendo with the refrain:

"Give me your hands, 'cause you're wonderful."

  15. Today is our last #BowieADay, and so the album is his final, Blackstar (2016), my official entry point to Bowie. However, I really can't handle listening to it today. So instead I'm putting this soundtrack on, the first memory I have of hearing Bowie, both his voice and covers of his songs. Me and my friends were obsessed with Moulin Rouge (2001) when it came out. I got a copy on VHS and the soundtrack on CD, which has both versions of "Nature Boy" Bowie recorded.

  20. Today's #BowieADay album is his 25th, The Next Day (2013). And so, here are 25 of the 42 words Bowie used to describe the album: Anarchist, Burial, Chthonic, Comeuppance, Displaced, Domination, Effigies, Flight, Funereal, Glide, Identity, Indulgences, Interface, Isolation, Miasma, Mystification, Nerve, Origin, Osmosis, Reverse, Succubus, Trace, Tragic, Transference, Vampyric.

Also: James Murphy's "Hello Steve Reich" remix of "Love Is Lost" that samples a familiar track.

  25. Today's #BowieADay album is Reality (2003). The standout for me: "Bring Me the Disco King". The track was 1st recorded during the BTWN sessions, originally a cheesy number that didn't fit the album. The 2nd version was from the Earthling sessions, "muscular" with a "pulsating, Kraftwerk-style synth groove". But the 1st version that was actually released was a remix on the Underworld soundtrack (2003), w/Danny Lohner, Maynard James Keenan, John Frusciante, et al.

  30. Another note on today's #BowieADay entry, #Reality. His show in Prague was my final Bowie show (Glass Spider, Sound and Vision, both Tin Machine, Dissonance, Earthling). I went with my friend Sophie, who left early, because the noisy 90s stuff wasn't to her liking. I don't recall the whole setlist, but it included Cactus and (with a false start) Station To Station. After STS, he cut the show short; after the next date, the rest of the tour as he'd had a heart attack and needed an angioplasty.

  35. #BowieADay for today is 2003's #Reality. A lot of rock and roll, a couple of stonking covers and one of those weird long ballads Bowie did so well, Bring Me the Disco King. A few years ago, I was visiting my folks in LA and saw that pianist Mike Garson was backing up Mason Alexander Park on an evening of Bowie/Bowie-related goodies. They opened with Disco King and I was floored at such an odd choice. Alas, not on YouTube. youtube.com/watch?v=XdDjDDRXIj

  40. Yesterday's #BowieADay album was #Heathen, a return to the weird after the relatively straight up offering of hours. Interspersed with the strange are several tracks refracting the tragedy of Sept. 11.
I'd never really gotten into the Pixies, so had to track down the original version of Cactus. Still prefer Bowie's. (Weirdly, this isn't the first time DB covered the Pixies - Debaser was regularly in the set list on the Tin Machine II tour, though it wasn't on any of the live albums.) 1/2

  45. #BowieADay log entry 27

After finishing all 26 David Bowie studio albums, there is only one thing left to do: my #DavidBowie studio album ranking.

Please bear in mind that this is a rather loose ranking as I listened to most of the albums only once.

Oh, and there is one missing in the grid, this one is last.

Listening to Blackstar now feels different than it did 9 years ago espcecially since now I listened to all studio albums.

I feel a bit like listening to late Queen songs, where Freddie was already terminally ill. Bowie and Freddie have a lot in common while being completely different.

I direct comparison to its predecessors this is a return to more experimental paths, but the truth is, this album covers every aspect of Bowie's career. There are bits and pieces from all his albums.

Blackstar brings up all emotions. It is a the grand finale of an outstanding career.
