  1. Tin Machine

May 22, 1989 was Christmas morning for fans of The Thin White Duke .. Tin Machine released their debut album. It was Bowie teamed with guitarist Reeves Gabrels and brothers Tony Sales on bass and Hunt Sales on Drums and produced some raw, aggressive rock that was a total pivot from Bowie's polished, pop-dance earlier sound of the '80's. It was an artistic reset for Bowie. #tinmachine #80srock #rock #rockmusic #music #musicsky #musiciansky #davidbowie

  6. Released today 37 years ago:

    🇬🇧 Tin Machine "Tin Machine" – 1989

A noisy, angular and deliberately abrasive debut where David Bowie throws himself into a fully democratic band format. The album rejects polished late-80s production in favour of sharp guitars, live energy, and restless experimentation...

  11. Of all the bands influenced by Pixies, Tin Machine don't sound like it (but they did cover Debaser, and David Bowie later covered Cactus):

"...and Bowie looked to one of his favorite bands at the time, Pixies, for inspiration. The Sales brothers heckled Bowie into greater spontaneity, with most songs recorded in one take, and lyrics left unpolished, thus giving the band a ragged, punk rock edge.[9]"

  12. Delighted to discover that Reeves Gabrels has been a member of The Cure since 2012. And sitting here now listening to the excellent guitar on Songs Of A Lost World.

Calling out to the #BowieADay people who enjoyed his latter collaborations with Bowie, or who made the diversion into #TinMachine.

  17. Spending some time with friends today. Tin Machine II (MOV reissue in turquoise) currently on the turntable. Have I mentioned this is my favourite Bowie period? :ablobjam:

  18. #Bowie tried on many musical suits. They weren't all to my taste (If I never hear Width of a Circle ever again it wouldn't bother me one bit) such as his mid 80s period (which lost me completely) I'm afraid i still view Tin Machine as a mid-life crisis in musical form.
    Your opinion may differ.

  19. Given the way things are going, I think we should all listen to "Under The God" by Tin Machine

    "Racism back in rule
White trash picking up Nazi flags
While you was gone, there was war
This is the West, get used to it
They put a swastika over the door"

  20. "You belong in rock and roll" by Tin Machine.

David Bowie's spin-off band were on their second album, promoted with spots on Wogan and BBC1's "Paramount City", whatever that was.

And a spot on next week's #TOTP, which brought complaints from the Éclair Protection Society.

  21. Postscript: #ReevesGabrels was playing slide #guitar in “country-pop” band #RubberRodeo after their 1986 release produced by #DavidBowie collaborator Ken Scott (#music engineer on #SpaceOddity & #TheManWhoSoldTheWorld, producer on #HunkyDory, #ZiggyStardust, #AladdinSane).

So a different and less-#1980s-bombast version of #Bowie’s #NeverLetMeDown could have happened then!

Maybe critics wouldn’t have panned it so hard; maybe he wouldn’t have reacted with five years of #TinMachine. Maybe, maybe…

  22. Why the ef isn't #TinMachine II on Apple Music?! I loathe having to listen to albums on Youtube.

  23. Se cumplen años de la muerte de #JohnLennon, así que les dejo esta rareza: su canción "Working Class Hero" en su versión original, más la versión de hard #rock (!) de #DavidBowie con su banda #TinMachine.

  24. Live performance of "If There Is Something" by Tin Machine.

Just reinforcing that Tin Machine was one of the most underrated bands ever.

  25. Today's random task: Recycling at the county dump.
    Soundtrack: Tin Machine by #TinMachine.
Result: Gunmetal skies for a gunmetal album...I love this neglected ferocious beast, where #DavidBowie howls like a rock god and @ReevesGabrels plays like a six-string thunderbolt. ⚡️💥

  26. #AmListening #NowPlaying #IggyPop and #DavidBowie Live 1977. On the tour for The Idiot, Bowie played keyboards and provided backing vox. The rhythm section was Tony and Hunt Sales (later of #TinMachine). Guitars were provided by Ricky Gardiner. The Cleveland date (21 March 1977) was widely bootlegged under the name Iggy and Ziggy. That date, as well as shows from 7 and 28 March are collected here: open.spotify.com/album/3q3TMyR

The quality of the Cleveland set is the best of the three.

  27. One more Bowie tune before turning in, though technically this one is by "Tin Machine".

The song is "Under The God", and from their first album (there were only two), released in 1989.

This is from a live performance in 1991.

On a side note, I find it remarkable that he was able to so deftly dodge whatever was thrown on stage, considering that he basically didn't have any depth perception.

  29. "They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool
Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules"

Remembering John Lennon (09.10.1940 - 08.12.1980): Tin Machine and David Bowie performing Working Class Hero.
