@MakersHour hi, Maaike here. Fun fact about my #BoroShirt (which isn't finished yet, but I'm on the last sleeve!): I was about halfway when I ran out of the first skein of yarn, 80 meters, so the finished shirt will contain about 160 meters of running stitch.

@MakersHour Hi, Maaike here! This weeks active projects are a sock that i have finally managed to push bestond the tedious heel flap, my eternal #BoroShirt, and the #FrankenFabric quilt. I've put together the edging strip, that needs to be attached (let's find out if I can produce passable mitered corners), and than finally on to the fun bit: embroidering it.

Forgot to post my #WIPWednesday yesterday. It's now, I don't know, day 200 or so of my #100DayProject, and I'm nowhere near finished (other projects keep getting on the way), but progress is still being made on my #BoroShirt.

Today's me made May is the same as yesterday, so let's do a 100 day project update instead. There no way I'll finish this before the end of the week, but I haven't abandoned it. Progress is slow, but happening. This is the back of the shirt, almost done. Then, onwards to the sleeves.

Trying to decide on a replacement yarn. The small boll is what I'm using now, top line on the patch. I like the look of the slighter thicker ones (lower two lines) more than the thinner one on (second from above), but those thicker ones are a bit too thick for my needles, and don't pull through the fabric very smoothly, so I'll probably go with the thin one anyway. To white but on the fabric it's not very noticeable ,(and I could soak it in tea or onion skins or something first)

Meanwhile, i'm still plodding along with my shirt. Progress is slow but steady.
Apparently the yarn I'm using ( and will run out of before I'm finished) is back in stock, but the shipping costs are fairly ridiculous, so now I'm debating weather I will use the slightly thicker yarn I have, or if that will bug me greatly and I should just cough up the money. I still have some patched to go to try and think of an alternative.

I dont think in going to finish this in 100 days... We're on day, what? 50 of so? and I'm not even half done. But that's okay, I'm not in a hurry anyway, and still having fun with it. I will probably run out of thread before the end as well, and it seems it's no longer in stock, I'll have to find some similar weight alternative thread....

Moving onto the back.

Oh yeah, i didn't forget about my 100 day project. It's plodding along nicely. Not sure if I'll manage to finish it in 100 days, but we'll see.

Starting to take shape.

Going bottom up now.

Flowers!
So, a tip when making a top that's a bit experimental, or with a new to you technique is to start with the back. I always tell myself this in advance, and i always forget. This way you get to practice the new thing a bit on the less visible side. In this instance, i only realized after starting this floral patch that if i start at the top and work down, the edge of the overlaps will catch lint and dirt. If I go bottom up, the patches will be more like roofing tiles and catch less gunk. I'm not going to undo this one patch but will start on the bottom edge of my shirt tomorrow.

Hey, look, new patch!

Yesterday on the 100 day project: more stitching on the same bit (hence, no picture again). But today i finished the inside of the front neckline with bias tape. A bit wonky on the corners, but pretty decent on the whole. I might have to apply some strategic embroidery on the corners later on, but for now I'm content.

So, I'm not going to clog the server with another picture of my 100 day project, since it's basically the same as yesterday's, but with more rows of stitching. But rest assured, progress is being made.

More stitching has happened in the 100 day project (yesterday too, but I forgot to post)

Today in the 100 day project, some actual stitching happened!

Today in the 100 day project, i basted some patches around the neckline of my shirt to see how it looks. This might be okay. A bit challenging because of the rounded front neckline, but doable. It'll need some precision sewing to keep potential fraying in check, but i think it'll work. I have a bit of facing on the back side of the neckline and will neaten the inside of the front with bias tape.

I forgot to take a picture and now it's dark, but today for the 100 day project i ironed some fabric and pondered how to finish the neckline. I thought about a facing, switched to a bias binding, then thought I'd just fold over the fabric, pinned some in place, but it didn't look just right. It needs more thinking. (You may have noticed I'm kind of vibe sewing this shirt.)

Today in the 100 day project, i sewed the base layer together. I decided that I wanted it to be wider than I had initially cut, so instead of the small underarm gussets, I added longer ones to the side seams.

For the 100 day project, I pondered if I should use this mystery yarn I found at the thrift store for the embroidery on my shirt.
(Yeah, okay, I got distracted and didn't actually do anything. I did consider this yarn and I'm not sure. If I can find out of its cotton I might use it, but i think I'll stick with the sashiko thread i have)
#The100DayProject #BoroShirt -
Today for the 100 day project, i cut the fabric for my base layer. Actual progress, yay!
#The100dayProject #sewing #BoroShirt -
Hardly any time for the 100 day project today, but i did manage to dig up some matching bias band from the stash that will come in handy.
#The100DayProject #sewing #BoroShirt -
Today for the 100 day project, I measured my fabric and confirmed i have enough for what i have planned. The beige and black flannel will go on the inside, and the white side of that fabric will be completely covered boro style in patches of the other fabric. I thought about adding a middle layer made from some cut up old merino shirts, but have decided against it. In stead I'll just cut up one merino shirt and use it to mend the other two. But that's a different project.

A day late, but here's the first installment of my 100 day project: an incredibly sophisticated pattern drawing I just made of the shirt I'm going to make. It'll look better in fabric, and use up a nice stack of scraps and remnants.
