Senator #LisaMurkowski (R-AK) became Friday morning the 2nd Republican to say she would oppose his nomination in a floor vote, joining Sen #SusanCollins (R-ME). Sen #BillCassidy (R-LA) has not announced his position, but his opposition could lead to Blanche’s rejection. #Democrats uniformly oppose his nomination.

One reason #BillCassidy was willing to break with #Trump 5 years ago is that #Louisiana had a different #election system than it does now. From 1975 until this year, the top 2 finishers on Election Day, regardless of party, would face each other in a runoff if neither garnered 50%. That allowed a #Republican like Cassidy to win by assembling a coalition that included #independents & moderate #Democrats.
