One of the flaws in the Big Sleep are the obvious, clumsy attempts to amp up Bogart's sex appeal. There are at least 5 encounters with women in which they're instantly 'wow'ed.
It isn't that Bogart doesn't have appeal, it's that they're working too hard to sell it.
Compare it to Casablanca where they don't overdo that--and he's just as attractive.
