I don't want to shush people who seem to be happy and just having a lively conversation in public transport, world is dark enough as it is. However, at the same time this level of shouting/laughing too high for my music to drown out is risking a sensory overload before I even arrived where I wanted to go. And I still need that energy when I am at my destination.

Please, it you use public transport, mind your surroundings. Nobody addressing you about your voice level doesn't mean nobody is bothered by it. If the bus or train itself is too loud or your buddy isn't sitting right next to you, maybe simply hold that thought until you leave instead of shouting it? It's easier to understand their reply when they don't have to shout back, too.
