  2. He’ll be Proud

My step son, Harry, will be proud of me. I just finished watching Better Call Saul. He really wanted me to watch it. He was raving about it all the time. Now I’ve watched the whole series and he can finally talk to me about it without worrying about spoilers.

FYI, it’s as good as everyone says it is. Go watch it.

Subject change. I mentioned that I bought a few new guitar pedals over the last week. I haven’t had a chance to try them out yet. I’m debating whether I want to integrate them into the board I use at home, or should I make a brand new pedal board instead. I’m leaning toward a new board. Just for a while at least. Just for schnitzengiggles.

Subject change. We have a couch delivery scheduled for this morning. The delivery window they gave me is pretty long. It extends into my work day and it overlaps two scheduled meetings. Here’s hoping we get lucky and the truck gets here early enough to not mess anything up.

Subject change. Our mouse hunting cats had a target last night. We woke up in the middle of the night to see them chasing a gross little teeny tiny rodent around. At the time, the little bastard got away. We don’t see any signs of the prick this morning, but the cats are clearly still on high alert. We live in the woods. One of the biggest rivers in New England runs smack through our town. Mice are a part of life. Still… go get the little home invading asshole, cats. Do your job. Protect your house.

Okay. Time to go start the day. That delivery truck is going to be here… eventually.

  3. CW: Breaking Bad spoiler, specifically season 3 eps 12 & 13

Recently rewatched those two episodes and this has been in my head for a week now, I gotta talk about it or my head will explode.

Everyone knows and loves Mike’s famous “half measures” speech. It’s the one where back when Mike was a cop, and the guy was beating his wife regularly. Mike almost kills the guy but decides not to, and then next week the guy ends up killing her. “I took a half measure, when I should have went all the way.” Alright, extrajudicial violence aside, fine.

Now, the situation with Jesse, the reason everyone is in a tizzy. Jesse sees that a couple drug dealers are using kids, and decides to kill them. No half measure in sight. And then Mike stops him, which results in the dealers killing the kid. When the dealers end up dead, Mike is all pissed off. Like, hypocrite much?? Your whole speech was about killing someone before they have a chance to harm an innocent person- WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT JESSE WAS GOING TO DO??!?

And like, fine. Mike is taking orders from Gus so nothing is really his call but Mike acts personally offended by the whole thing. So what, killing to protect an innocent person is the right thing to do, except if your boss says not too?

To be clear I’m criticizing Mike, not the show. It’s too on the nose to have been an accident and is actually great characterization for Mike. He lives by his code, but that code isn’t a shortcut to living a moral life. Jesse on the other hand doesn’t have a “code,” he just acts on impulse. Child-like you could say. But he is able to intuitively cut right to what is right is wrong. There’s no formula to follow, like with Mike. He just knows what’s wrong.

  4. #introduction post since I have no idea how to find people to follow here

I am a fan of #tv I like to talk about the storytelling and share some memes and jokes sometimes. I especially like shows about women who are terrible and/or gay but my taste is wide.

tags for a handful of favorite shows but I enjoy many more:
