gen 1 had giovanni as the final gym leader, so far the only villainous one. it also had your rival blue as the champion, who is a jerk but not really a villain. i’m no genwunner by any means but it did have some interesting ideas that were never explored again (so did some of the future games, mind; like hoenn gave you a dad lol. and don’t even get me started on gen 5 which is #bestgen)

speaking of gen 5, while b&w didn’t have a villainous champion, you do have to defeat the big bad instead of the champion in order to beat the main game (given what these games are like, not that odd lol). the champion is postgame instead. so it also got close, but not quite.

but no i want a villain champion. like a corrupt asshole or whatever who wants to misuse their title for bad stuff, idec what.
