This morning at the Django booth there was a very interesting meeting between the BeeWare and Django projects 📱✨
Russell gave a small demo showing how the Django admin could become a native mobile application using BeeWare.
Natalia and Jacob, our two Django Fellows, seemed very interested, so maybe some interesting collaboration or experiment could grow from this meeting.

@astraluma do #BeeWare apps work on your phone, out of curiosity?

Today in #BeeWare
@freakboy3742 tries to name a thing. Gets sad because name is taken on #PyPI.
Upon closer inspection: _Russell_ owns the package on PyPI.

@tshirtman #Beeware compiles "Hello World", #Flet compiles "Hello World" in seconds". 😉

Took Beeware for a spin yesterday. It's just the Toga web view tutorial from the documentation page, but serving my FreedomBox web interface.

There's not much to see in terms of code. I am just amazed that it works on GTK and Android. I had to put a lot of work into resizing PNGs because the platforms expect different resolutions.
https://salsa.debian.org/njoseph/freedombox-beewareI don't know yet if the native Android app's features can be fully replicated.

I am probably not the first person to make this observation, but I am starting to suspect that #Beeware might actually be the bee's knees.
Going from zero to #Android app in just a few minutes, in #Python, and then seeing the exact same "hello world" look good in a Linux GTK rebuild a few seconds later ... is very cool indeed.

@G047_H4xx0r_M4573R_814573R @MaggieFero this was tongue-in-cheek, as the rest of the thread indicates more clearly.
I've worked on the #BeeWare project for nearly a decade, which is a pretty successful attempt to make cross-platform (iOS, macOS, Windows, Linux, Android) apps in pure python.
We're always looking for contributors if this is an area you care about.

When he isn't wearing his CEO hat for Crowdalert, Philip James is a core contributor on the BeeWare project, a project trying to make native iOS apps possible in Python. There's something special about a founder so committed to his craft that it's both his career *and* his hobby! 🐝💻

I was just on @talkpython and we ran out of time to ask me for a notable #Python package, but I was going to say Toga from the #BeeWare project because they just hit a milestone of having audited all of their widgets on all supported OSs!

It’s not *quite* merged, but I’m very pleased with my single day of sprints today. Thanks to Malcolm Smith and @freakboy3742 for the help. Fun to be able to go from zero to a decent contribution in a single day!

Hey @freakboy3742, you working on a #beeware app for #mastodon yet?
