  1. Listen weather, I'm going to have to get you to sort your shit out. I'm trying to get my dough to rise in a kitchen that's 6° and that's not acceptable.

Huh, I don't think I've had to chip through ice on the dogs water bowls yet this year..

  5. I love nights like this. The rain is thumping down and the wind is howling. I just wished the dogs were able to settle as well as I can when it sounds like this.

  7. Bathurst has a "Love Pickle Club". I keep seeing it advertised on social media.

Every single time I see it, I get sad when I remember it's about pickleball, and not about pickles.

    Every time.

  9. Us, in our tiny little Suzuki Swift nearly got rear ended by one of those giant fucking RAM SUVs this morning (irony noted).

The guy in front of the guy in front of us braked hard, causing the guy in front of us to break, and me to break... the guy in the SUV behind us braked hard as well, but had to swerve into the side verge so he didn't just run into the back of us.

I think it was a mixture of him going fast and not paying attention, more than him being too close (although those giant things have so much weight to them that drivers really need to leave way more stopping space than they do).

Anyways, I'm glad he thought quickly and didn't hit us. But also those things shouldn't be driven by most of the people who have them.

  11. Last night was bin night on my street, and my bin was knocked over by the garbage truck this morning. I've had a horrible headache today and hadn't been able to pop out, pick it up, and bring it.

This afternoon, a girl who looked maybe 8 or 10, wearing the uniform from the local primary school around the corner and a couple of blocks away, was just walking home from school along my street, and stopped to pick up my bin and put the lid back on. I saw through my front windows.

The kids around here often get a really hard time, with people criticising what they're like when they're outside just existing. We have people in the local Facebook groups posting Ring camera footage of kids walking past their house and complaining that there are kids playing in the local park. They're always talked about with suspicion and distrust.

This girl did something super helpful, not because she was asked or because she was being watched.. but because she saw something that needed to be done, and she stepped up and did it. This is an action grounded in a sense of community spirit, kindness, and care.

Her actions are really appreciated! I feel proud and thankful to live in a world where young people are thoughtful and kind.

  13. We're off to Orange tomorrow, to take my housemate to the Asian grocery store so she can stock up on everything she eats from there. My guess is that this will be one of the last times we can take a longer* drive for such a small reason.

I'm really going to cut down driving in the next couple of weeks. I'm trying to get my housemate to sort out her room so she can have a functional office in there as well, so we can perhaps start having her work from home a few days a week. We need to get her a new desk, and some more bookcases, I also need to spin her bed around 90° so this against her other wall to get everything to fit in there. She's not a neat person, and her bedroom is vmessy.. which is fine, it's her room and I'm not her mother (tbh, if I was I wouldn't worry about her space either).. so I think it's going to be hard work for her to tidy enough that we can move furniture.

My hope is to sort out the house so that she can work from it and I can live in it without us wanting to murder each other.. with the goal of driving only maybe once or twice a week to help with the fuel crisis because it's only going to get worse towards the end of the month.

    * longer drive = more than the 10 minutes it takes to get into town. Orange is about 40 minutes away.

  17. Abercrombie House near Bathurst NSW looks like a castle on the hill 🏰 Built in the 1870s in Scottish Baronial style, this historic mansion is one of Australia’s most impressive heritage homes. A real step back into colonial history. 📸

  20. So, apparently a 21 year old man in Bathurst has been charged with various offences after police found numerous books detailing how to make pipe bombs, the materials for making pipe bombs, some pipe bombs, and over 50 stolen snakes in his home.

None of the offences are terrorist offences.

    Interesting. 🤔

  22. CW: Spiders Picture of large spider behind window

It's always interesting being away from home for an extended time and seeing all the little things I do not get done, and the way my housemate is all "I don't know why that happened?"

Like, I spray the outside of the windows down with water every couple of weeks, because the flyscreens don't fit snug and a LOT of critters get in around them to then hide between the screen and the window (and then of you open the windows they just wander inside..), spraying them down just washes all the little critters out so they don't become big critters or get inside.

My housemate isn't aware that this is something I've been doing for the 3 years we've lived here, and is confused why all the windows now have GIANT FUCKING SPIDERS caught between the screen and the glass. She was literally like "I don't know.. it's like you left and they all just decided to attack the house or something?" Nah, they were little spiders 6 weeks ago and have been feasting on the other bugs getting caught... now they're huge.

Anyways, I'm not sure how I'm going to deal with this (I'm arachnophobic). Last year I asked my submissive to sort it out, and he did a spectacular job without me having to know any of the details. But we're on a break while he puts his focus into some family stuff.

Maybe they just live there now.

  25. The Bathurst 12 Hour race had to be stopped for a while. First, driver James Golding's car caught fire after hitting a wall. Then, the driver who was in first place, Ralf Aron, crashed into Golding's car. Luckily, both drivers got out safely.

  30. If you need to get somewhere with air conditioning for a while, and can't deal with sitting in a shopping centre—check your local library!

Most libraries have air conditioning, don't mind if you bring snacks and drinks in (please be careful), have books, games and toys for kids, and spaces to sit and read and soak up that a/c.

You don't even have to have a library card (but of you want one, they're usually free to join!)

    Libraries are amazing places.
