A few thoughts on Marcus Rashford and reports of Barcelona deciding not to activate the €30m buy option. Could mean any one of four things. 1. Negotiation dance with Manchester United to try to lower fee. 2. Negotiation dance with Rashford over wages. 3. They genuinely don’t want him now following Anthony Gordon’s arrival and Raphinha returning to fitness. 4. Another loan (useful for a club with financial issues).
Certain realities… 1. Rashford obviously loved his time at Barcelona. Playing with a smile again. 2. Done well for Barcelona (14 goals, 11 assists, 49 games) and can play central. 3. Hansi Flick likes him. 4. Barcelona today posted pictures from training during season featuring Rashford embedded in squad. 5. Widely reported he would take a wage cut to stay.
6. In form. Expected to start ahead of Gordon on the left for England. 7. Does he want a return to the scrutiny he gets back in England? 8. United have moved on from Rashford emotionally, tactically and financially. 9. He’s 29. Little resale value. And 10. „Més que un club“ hat mal wieder die spanische Fussballmeisterschaft (der Herren; die Frauen gewinnen sowieso) gewonnen. Die deutsche Presse feiert das hinter Paywalls. Ausser
Florian Haupt/taz: “FC Barcelona wird spanischer Meister: Papas zweites Meisterstück – Der FC Barcelona sichert sich durch ein 2:0 gegen Real Madrid den Titel. Trainer Hansi Flicks Fußball begeistert ebenso wie seine Führungsqualitäten.”
Diese journalistische Hymne ist durchaus fachgerecht. Weil ich ihr vollständig zustimme, möchte ich jedoch eine Kritik ergänzen. Denn dieser beste und schönste Fussball der Welt ist dennoch im Viertelfinale der Champions League ausgeschieden – gegen die zweitbeste Mannschaft aus Madrid. Weil der dienstälteste Spitzentrainer Europas, der Argentinier Diego Simeone, ihn entschlüsselt hat. Die Gesamtbilanz gegen diesen Gegner ist bescheiden. Bei Barca-Fans ist er zurecht verhasst, weil er ein Zerstörer der Schönheit ist.
Warum ihm dieses Teufelswerk gelingt, und in der Vorsaison im Halbfinale schon Inter Mailand gelang (in zwei Partien, die in die Lehrbücher des besten Fussballs der Welt gehören; unmittelbar danach erlitt ich meinen Herzinfarkt), ist im Spiel einfach zu erkennen. Die Abwehrreihe von Flicks Barca-Fussball steht so hoch, dass sie für erstklassige Konter immer überwindbar ist. Wenn es in 90-95% der Fälle Abseits ist, bleiben 5-10%, die zum Gegentor führen können. Und es oft auch tun. Das wusste schon Hennes Weisweiler 1965, weswegen er 1969 Sieloff und Müller (“Luggi”) nach Mönchengladbach holte.
Entweder Flick lernt von Weisweiler, oder sein Team bleibt immer nur eine der besten Mannschaften der Welt. Aber die Schönste.
Und jetzt wirds ernst
Keine schöne Nebensache, sondern eine Hauptsache deutschen Medienwesens:
René Martens/MDR-Altpapier: “Neue Grenzüberschreitungen – Die ‘Tagesschau’ bezeichnet Gleichberechtigung als ‘strittiges Thema’ – als wäre Artikel 3 des Grundgesetzes verhandelbar. Und der Chefredakteur von ‘ARD aktuell’ sieht kein Problem darin, ‘Nius’ in den ‘Tagesthemen’ zu Wort kommen zu lassen, solange das ‘eingeordnet’ wird.”
