👣FESTIVAL OF AGES⛩️
October 22nd is a busy day for festivals in Kyōto. Up in the mountains Kurama village is readying to light 250 giant pine torches, while down in the city a parade featuring figures from 1000 years of Kyōto's history will soon be underway.
The Jidai Matsuri (時代祭 'Festival of the Ages') is 1 of Kyōto's '3 Great Festivals', along with the Aoi Matsuri (葵祭) in May and the Gion Matsuri (祇園祭) in July.

The journey was long and darkness began to fall before the 1km procession had reached its destination.
Expecting the gods, the locals of Kurama fashioned torches and bonfires from dry reeds (taken from the Kamo-gawa) to light the way.
Their generosity would later be rewarded.
