Was in an old #NASCAR mood, so until I start to fall asleep sooner rather than later, I've thrown on the 1995 Southern 500 at Darlington. The Patron Saint of my racing groupchat, the great Dick Trickle, had a surprising 2nd row qualifying run in this one and Ed Berrier is making his series debut whose "rookie" car (he was fired part way through the season) in Cup from 2000 I keep still in box sitting on my bar.

I really hope Layne Riggs doesn't end up getting the Corey Heim treatment, being left for years as the biggest fish in a small pond because higher series won't make room for him but keep promising him a ride in the future. He's definitely a more promising choice than Gragson and I could understand the argument of choosing him over Todd Gilliland who never performed as well as he did in Trucks and is just an okay Cup driver most of the time.
Obviously if he wants to stay loyal to Ford that also means he has nowhere to go now in O'Reilly's as all those competitive Ford teams jumped ship to Chevy this year with little support coming.

I'm disappointed that it looks like Gragson might return to Front Row, he brings all his redneck money (Bass Pro, Black Rifle Company, etc) but just doesn't seem to have the taste for this type of driving.
I was hoping we'd get to see what Layne Riggs could do in a Cup car. Maybe 2028.

I'm surprised that Louis Foster couldn't find a more competitive ride for Lime Rock, he may not be the most prestigious person in Indycar racing but he's still like a major league driver, I think that warrants at least a Niece ride if he's avoiding Toyota due to being a Honda guy.
But still, I'm into it. I love when Indycar drivers or IMSA drivers come try out their skills in stock car racing even if not in particularly good teams.

Watching the first ever IROC night race at Charlotte in 1996. Not the greatest VHS rip but it doesn't have much static, the audio is solid, and it contains some '96 era commercials which is always a fun experience.

I've been extremely impressed with Viking Motorsports in #NASCAR O'Reilly's Series racing this year. The team had put up decent results before, fighting for top 20s, but the addition of two young hotshot drivers in Alfredo and Retzlaff and their close technical relationship they've formed with RCR has made both drivers into real contenders for strong finishes this year despite the relative youth of the team.
I really hope some of these bigger teams take note and scoop up Alfredo or Rezlaff as their drivers and give them a chance to fight for actual wins and championships, not just playoff spots.

Just found out that the NHRA Sportsman series events, edited down for broadcast, are uploaded for on demand watching on Tubi. They usually air at odd hours as schedule filler on FS1/FS2, so I'm really pumped to know this. Right now watching the Top Alcohol dragsters go at it in the Chicagoland area.

Yesterday NASCAR Classics uploaded the 1994 Cup series race at Sears Point (Sonoma) so I've thrown it on this afternoon to hype myself for the weekend. There isn't a single road course ringer in this race, but there are several Winston West series guys because this was a combination race including Butch Gilliland, Ron Hornaday, and Rick Carelli.

Apparently MSR are interested in Caio Collet. The kid has a TON of sponsorship backing from his auto racing obsessed home country, so I imagine several teams are interested.
He's shown moments of real speed this year, but he's also 23rd in points of 25 full timers so I think he's hyped up too much by people thinking he's a rising star. When you're battling with Mick Schumacher and Sting Ray Robb in points, I'm not gonna be THAT impressed but I do think he has more promise than your typical well monied driver.

I've had people ask me if Dick Trickle was real or if this shirt (of his 1999 Busch Series car) is a joke, and I delight in telling them not only was he real but perhaps the most successful short track driver of all time with over a 1,000 feature wins in his career.

Enzo Fittipaldi kind of lucked into the Indy NXT win this year, his second in his rookie campaign. However, that doesn't mean he isn't a damn good driver, outside of an incident in one race he's finished in the top 4 in every other event. Given how much sponsorship money might want to associate themselves with a Fittipaldi with promise, I could absolutely see him hooking up with a team like Juncos-Hollinger or Coyne who are not unfriendly to drivers that bring a solid budget behind them.
He was smart to follow the example of Dennis Hauger and run a year in Indy NXT from F2 instead of trying to jump straight into an #indycar because it is developing him for these types of cars and making all the car owners out there see just how promising his talents are rather than blindly jumping into the top level and hoping for the best.

I've been a fan of Carson Hocevar since I watched him in late models, let alone his great rookie year in a Truck. I loved his victory celebration, though it'll probably be banned by Tuesday, and you're damn right I got teary eyed during his interview. This first of probably many more to come.

Wally Dallenbach Jr running right up with Dale Earnhardt a lot of this race, love me some Wally, a favorite of my pet journeyman drivers in the series.

#F1 teams are really just hurting themselves by refusing to give Alex Palou a real shot after all the contract dramas he's gone through. He is easily the greatest #Indycar driver of his era, and already looking like he could be a GOAT sooner than later. I think he'd adapt well to F1, especially to the driving style mandated by these new regulations.

Catching up on the ARCA East race on Hickory which was added for free on YouTube, and I'm really impressed with the run by Dystany Spurlock who hasn't had near the speed of the leaders by running 7th-8th in larger than usual field all race long. She races on two wheels in a straight line usually as an NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle standout, the NHRA being the only American motorsports where female drivers are quite common.

The IHRA has started their own stock car series this year and these were the opening races at my hometrack the other week. I was disappointed I could go but my racing partner had NG drill that weekend, but glad to be able to watch it on their YouTube which I follow cause sometimes I like watching their drag racing which sometimes has names I recognize as former NHRA regulars.
