This evening's viewing: cult 1970s Aussie flick, The Cars That Ate Paris, Peter Weir's first feature film, well before Picnic at Hanging Rock. BFI has a restored version coming soon, and were kind enough to send me a review screener.

This evening's viewing: Danny and Michael Philippou's Bring Her Back, with Sally Hawkins (playing against type as a very creepy foster mother).
An Aussie horror from the same creators of the rather excellent Talk to Me, so looking forward to this.

Just been watching a classic movie, Young Einstein. Still as crazy and creative as it was when it was released in 1988. Excellent soundtrack too.
Remarkable that Yahoo Serious wrote, directed, produced and starred in it, an incredible achievement.

Watched *Taverna* the other night. As it is First Fleet or [ Oz / Australia/ Invasion ] day today or tomorrow here in Oz, here is a movie that's up there with "The Castle ". Its charming and authentic, not perfect, humble , captures a version of one real Australia.
Great cast great production.
Solid Script.https://youtu.be/qUQPLVWB61o?si=-HRRdXmi33Sbj_LE
""The Taverna follows one utterly chaotic evening in a family run Greek restaurant.
Taverna owner, Kostas gets more than he bargained for when his popular belly dancer refuses to work to avoid her ex-husband and his new girlfriend, and is replaced at the last minute by one of his eager waitresses....
It all adds up to a **darkly comic ride into the wild side of life, love, food and cultural differences.**"
Its Flamin Excellent !

What’s on my mind? Honey.
…And this scene, from the 1985 film, “Bliss” where the scorned lover sneaks about his beekeeping love’s bush retreat, secretly planting honey blossom trees, to send her a ‘love letter’ via bees.
The love letter that took eight years:
https://aso.gov.au/titles/features/bliss/clip3/
“To say Bliss was ahead of its time is an understatement: the bold metaphors and sharp satire weren’t appreciated by everyone in 1985. (Video excerpt 3.14 minutes This clip chosen to be G)”

MORNING OF THE EARTH (’72): Essentially a feature-length music video, this South Pacific surfing film stands out for its incredible soundtrack (they really picked some terrific tunes) and great photography. And more than most other films made with this aim, this very effectively captures a mood and a moment. Memorable. #surfingfilms #70sfilms #australianfilm
