Wondering whether to pack that ball for the Welsh beaches on Saturday afternoon ;-)
Still watching the weather as if I control it.

Oh no I am about ten days away from a 400
I do hope I fare better than the recent 300 I failed
Last time I rode the Llanfairpwllgwyngyll gogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch 400 I bailed at 260 after being sick and spent a very cold night in a bus shelter
In other news it was my fastest commute ever this morning so is guess I am fairly fit so who knows

This ride was part of my attempt to get bike fit again, and completing an Audax ride was one of my milestones.
Checking my records - I've ridden 150km in April 2026, the last time I exceeded that total was in August 2016 when I rode 321kn.
The last ride of greater than 52km was in December 2016 when I rode to Northampton (but not back). That ride was just under 57km
My last Audax BP ride was also a DIY ride of 113km in July 2016 - but I don't think I submitted that ride for validation (for reasons™)
I have no records of any validated #AudaxUK rides since January 2014 - I have the paper records though!

Back home after my 52km bike ride.
It's seriously breezy out there - more so than I expected.
Plus, I must have planned the route to include every hill in south Leicestershire!
Still, it's completed and it's within time, so I can submit it for validation as a #AudaxUK BP ride. My first in a couple of decades (I need to check that). Now, I'm absolutely knackered.

Good morning tooters
Yesterday evening's Petanque match was almost, but not quite, a disaster. Our team lost both matches, but the second one went to 12-13. I played dreadfully, although I'll admit to a couple of good balls.
It was really cold, and I wasn't dressed for it.Today I'm going out on an #AudaxUK 50km bike ride. I've booked a DIY ride out from home south toward Bruntingthorpe. The weather is looking benevolent.
I will be a blob of exhausted sweat later I expect!
Enjoy your endeavours

Out yesterday on the helpers ride route checking for next week's Oasts and Coasts 300 National.
Good company. Fine weather. Challenging route in places.
Rye to Hythe via Romney Marsh fills me with dread but to be fair it was not too bad yesterday. Nearly always against the wind for 40k on this stretch. Not so yesterday.
Same goes for Birchington to Reculver, Whitstable to Graveney and the long insidious climb up to the top of Hollingbourne Hill through Newnham, Doddington and Ringlestone.
Riding with seasoned audaxers made all the difference. I pushed myself much more than I do on a DiY. Stayed with it though, took my turn at the front and never got dropped.
A good day out on the bike.

It's Thursday so I've been on my usual Wednesday bike ride.
At 41.4km this is the furthest I've ridden in one go since March 2017.
My quest for fitness continues - I suppose I should have been grateful for the headwind on this ride, but it made it hard work, particularly on the hilly bits!I discovered a handy new coffee place in Kirby Mallory 👍
I'm still pondering entering my 50km DIY #AudaxUK ride next week. 🤔

If you ride audaxes in the UK and use a Garmin I’d highly recommend the ConnectIQ Audax Control Alert app which tells you when you are close to a control and then when you are close enough to register in the E-Brevet app (or keep your eyes peeled for the physical control if you like the old fashioned brevet cards).

The audax organiser has circulated the route sheet.
After several years of doing this audax I am tired of the stupid climbing on the "official" route so am mapping an alternative that gets me to all the controls, just 1000m less hillily.
There are no INFO controls on the hilly sections so our only responsibility is to get to the named controls.by whatever route.
It will be interesting to see if anyone else has the same strategy.
