There was a time when rules could be relaxed or had not yet been written in Freemasonry, and where certain exceptions to normal protocol were taken, which would be unthinkable today.
On 25 February 1775, the Fourth Duke of Atholl, aged only nineteen, was initiated into Freemasonry. On the same day, he was Passed, Raised, installed as Master of a Lodge and then elected Grand Master of the Antients on 25 March 1775.
