CW: consent, direct communication, perceptions of rude, accessibility.
on direct communication, direct asking for what you want, what you don't want, asserting limits. some say it is rude. but:
- includes neurotypical and neurodivergent alike.
- includes migrants, or all people who are not native speakers.
-includes people who need simple language, if you need an example, people hard of hearing, with cognitive or educational impairment.
-or just making things simpler to understand, no interpretation nor second guessing necessary. (second guessing is toxic for e. g. depressed or autistic people, and honestly, probably for everybody)
-a tool for consent: easier to ask and agree or not to things. making decision processes transparent.
-accountability easier to track. are people really doing what they say.this text came as convergence from my own recovery from depression and other nasties, neurodivergence education, a recent conflict in an mastodon instance with the wrong person leaving it, and finally discussions with artists friends who insist art must be hermetic and ambiguous.
I commit to staying direct and probably rude.
