Here's some vintage footage... well 1998 (and that's nearly ancient!) of the #Ashourne #Shrovetide game
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43cYNIujujUWhat most outsiders (which I am) don't get is that it's not the all-out violence fest that other #Shrovetide games can be, like the #Atherstone game. #Atherstone is every man for himself. #Ashourne's game is about community, playing hard yes but also looking out for each other.
Notice how, about 6 mins the group is told to back off, and does, when an injury occurs
