  9. Art Beyond Galleries: Exploring Creative Spaces

One of my goals for 2025 is to experience art in unlikely places. Art galleries and museums are places where art is viewed and celebrated. But there are many other venues that showcase creative endeavours.

Local cafés feature rotating art exhibits, community centers host workshops, and urban spaces are adorned with murals. Pop-up galleries in unconventional settings, such as warehouses or abandoned buildings, showcase innovative works. Markets and festivals frequently display local artists, while online platforms allow for virtual exploration of art in diverse environments.

Embracing these unexpected places can reveal a vibrant tapestry of creativity waiting to be explored.

    An Introduction to Art UK

One of my go-to places to explore public art collections is through Art UK, a comprehensive digital platform for public art collections throughout the United Kingdom. As an art education charity, their mission is to democratize access to art, ensuring that everyone can enjoy and learn from it. Their website aggregates an impressive collection of over 400,000 artworks from more than 3,400 British institutions, showcasing creations by over 55,000 artists.

The ArtUK initiative represents one of the largest arts partnerships in the UK, uniting diverse collections from museums, universities, libraries, town halls, and hospitals, as well as national organizations like the National Trust. What I appreciate most is their commitment to making art freely accessible to all, fostering enjoyment, education, and research in the arts.

Art is not confined to galleries; it thrives in our everyday spaces, reminding us that creativity belongs to everyone. When we open our eyes to the beauty that surrounds us, we ignite our own creative spirit and become a part of the vibrant tapestry of expression.

  26. Q: I would like to know about artists. Does it happen that some person creates?
Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj: It is the quality of that great knowledge "I Am" that creates.
Q: Can you be an artist if you are not free from the
    body-mind concept?
M: It is an aid to the artist that we are in the body. The body is the support of that beingness.
