My tips for how I add line weight to an artwork: where lines cross by each other, intersect, & where they start/stop. Areas closer to the viewer, that overlap with other elements, also tend to have thicker lines in my style. I also add variation in the face, to help facial features pop more.

Hand Study ✋

Start with basic/simple shapes, don't worry about details. Lines for the fingers to get their direction. Build up the silhouette/form.

For values, it helps to work big/blurry to small/refined. Get in the lighting direction first.

Color tip: when shading, you can get different looks/effects depending on how you choose your colors! No way is right or wrong, it all depends on the look you're going for.

Different environments, moods, lighting--all that can play a part. The concept works regardless of the medium or style. Don't be afraid to experiment! :)
