NZ jeweller and golf course owner Michael Hill has passed over to the next green in the sky. He was 86.

I'm sad to see that the Arrowtown Freemason's Lodge is shutting up shop. Twenty years ago I made a video on the restoration of this special building and met a variety of old fashioned craftspeople over a couple of years.

The Masons I interviewed were all genuinely nice people, but even back then the average age of members was in the late 60s and they had trouble attracting new talent. Young people today just aren't prepared to roll up a trouser leg or take the time to learn secret handshakes.
