This is awesome! Not quite the node based system I always wanted (like the underdeveloped but initially awesome Armory3D.org ), but still a huge step forward to opening #Godot3D up to people who are previously non-coders (kids, artists etc)

  20. With all the hype around Chrome finally supporting #WebGPU, I wonder why framework magicians like @RobDangerous and #Armory3D did not pick it up yet.
Is the era of "3D in the browser" ending and the era of native evolving?

  26. RIP #Armory3D.

A few diehard fans argue that because a handful of people a month occasionally post a bugfix and one guy is working on a project with some shared base code, that it's alive and well.

I suggest though that when the project feels no developments in the last 3/4 years were worth sharing anywhere online, that you're on a slow, inexorable death spiral.

Ironically the defenders blame the project being made open source rather than zero communication+contribution being made difficult.

  27. Nice! ArmorPaint ( the FOSS substance painter contender in development by the #Armory3D team - armorpaint.org ) just added particle brushes to do effects based on particles such as rain soaked material, or dew beading on glass... 😍

    @switchingsocial

Also worth mentioning is #Armory3D ( Armory3D.org ) - The libre 3D game engine built with deep integration into Blender, a powerful node logic system and highly cross platform outputs (Linux, Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Xbox, Playstation, Switch, HTML5 etc)

  29. Animated procedural water from the ocean file in the Armory3D examples:

The only geometry here is two cubes (the grey one and one for the water)

I especially like how it makes objects in the water fade out as they get deeper.

  30. @darias

Sort of yes, sort of no.

When I first tried, 0.6 beta wasn't out yet. 0.5 required compiling projects through Android Studio to get an apk, and I just didn't want to be bothered learning all of that when apparently 0.6 is going to have a simpler way to just export an apk.

I tried the HTML export though and that worked fine for me.

Now 0.6 beta is out, I haven't heard about if the apk export is included or not and how to use it, if it is included...

  31. Cell shading with volumetric lighting for non photo realistic rendering in Armory3D, the game engine specifically designed for #Blender . Note, this is version 0.2 of Armory, while 0.6 is just about to be released (beta vailable now).

  32. @darias

Looks like transparency issue has been fixed since 0.6 beta. I get the same issue with v0.6 beta, but not with the latest git version.

To try it for yourself, you can update to the latest commit with just 1 click in the Blender User Preferences > Add Ons > Armory > "Update SDK" button. Just be aware that the GIT version is obviously unstable, and will also upgrade projects to that version when opened (although I think it doesn't touch the file unless you save)

  33. @darias

OK, so I just copied the node layout from your toot and then added a logic node tree to animate that first value and it works nicely...

    #Armory3D #Blender #B3D #GameDev

  34. @darias

Actually Armory does allow animating shader properties (at least any properties using values, RGB settings or images).

At the moment though it just needs to be done through logic (either nodes or scripting). Just give a node a name in blender, tick the "parameter" checkbox under "Armory material node" and you can manipulate it through logic nodes or scripting.... Like this one I just made.

Yeah, I understand. #Godot and #Armory3D are progressing rapidly, but both are still maturing though. In time I'm sure both will get something impressive launched using them, and then more people will be willing to try and you'll see more of a community and greater contributions (could this be #RivenTails for #GodotEngine?) We're still working our way there as a community, though...

  37. @aral

Thanks! I used to work in #Gamedev quite a while back, so I know enough to keep the concept small and simple, and the timelines longer than anticipated. 🙄

I'm loving how quick and easy basic prototyping is in #Armory3D though, once you get past a couple of quirks (remember to attach node trees to an actual object, Blort! Remember!)

  38. Having fun experimenting with Armory3D , the FOSS, next gen game engine designed to run inside of Blender using all of it's UI / shortcut conventions.

Experimental, early days yet, but I have big ambitions! 😆

  39. Really enjoying getting back into game dev again, this time with #Armory3D. After it became clear that my beloved #BGE (Blender Game Engine) was slowly dying and about to be put to rest, I've been looking for a while now for something as simple to use without overly limiting me. Yes, #Godot looks nice, but without learning #GDscript / #Python / #Cplus, it's visual node system was incomprehensible to me.

#Armory3D though, while not nearly as mature as #GodotEngine, is a joy for me to use.

  40. @darias

For someone who codes, #GodotEngine *may* still be better for prototyping. Personally I tried *very hard* to get logic nodes in Godot to work, but essentially you still needed to know coding concepts to set them up. They're like 1 LOC (or less) = 1 node. There's resistance from Juan to changing this. He said that they're mainly for non-coders to just tweak.

To apply a physics impulse in Godot it was 4-5+ nodes for set up and vector math, using coding concepts. In #Armory3D it was 1.

  41. @darias

I would say that #Godot is more polished, featureful and mature with less bugs overall.

#Armory3D is less mature, but progressing rapidly. It's deeply integrated into #Blender. Set up materials, physics and logic in Blender's node system, how you're used to. Then just hit F5 to play with no buggy export / import work every time you make a change.

Right now, if you want to code something powerful, I'd use #Godot. If you want to make something fast (or no code) I'd go with #Armory3D.

  42. @GescheitGespielt

What do you mean by "inconsistent/confusing results"?

I haven't fully gone in depth with it yet, like I did with the #bge, but already I can say that the logic notes are far more powerful than the BGE's logic bricks. The renderer is also much faster.

#Armory3D seems to be a young project progressing quickly though. Some of the demos I've seen already look impressive. It seems that they really need artists to test/display the limits of what it's capable of though.
