It's unacceptable. #VAR came in and fixed the injustice.
If people want something to argue about, check how they Jashari fouled Nico González TWICE in the same play, no card given. Asinine.

VAR can only correct a decision the referee has already made — it can’t create a sanction out of nothing. So if a player dives at midfield and the referee doesn’t react at all, VAR cannot step in afterward to invent a card or a sending-off.
What’s new for this World Cup is that VAR can now review a red card resulting from a clearly incorrect second yellow card and overturn it if the original caution was wrong. This already played out in the USA–Paraguay match, where a yellow card was overturned and reassigned to a different player for simulation — a first use of the rule that drew some criticism.
