GTBOX G-DOCK Review: A compact graphics dock with OCuLink and USB4
The GTBOX G-DOCK is a dock that lets you add discrete graphics to a mini PC, laptop, handheld, or tablet with an OCuLink or USB4 cable.
Some of the other external graphics solutions I’ve reviewed recently, like the AYANEO AG01 and GPD G1 have a GPU built in. But the GTBOX G-Dock is really just a dock – it doesn’t come with a graphics card. So while the GTBOX G-Dock may not be as compact as […]

AOOSTAR AG02 is an open air external graphics dock with a 500 watt power supply
Earlier this year AOOSTAR launched the AG01 external graphics dock that allowed you to connect a desktop graphics card to any laptop, mini PC, or handheld with a 64 Gbps OCuLink connector.
Now the company has replaced the AG01 with a new model called the AOOSTAR AG02. It’s up for pre-order for $219 and expected to ship in mid-January. There are two significant differences between the new model and the original that should make it a more versatile eGPU dock.
The first is that the dock now has a 500 watt power supply built in, enabling support for desktop graphics cards with a TGP of up to 350 watts. The AG01 had a 400 watt power supply and was only compatible with cards up to 250 watts.
The second difference is that AOOSTAR has added a USB4 port. So while you’ll still get the best performance if you use an OCuLink connector with support for data transfer speeds up to 64 Gbps, you can also use a USB4 port to connect devices that may not have an OCuLink port. The USB4 port also supports 100 watt USB power delivery, allowing you to send power to a connected device.
AOOSTAR also replaced the “silver metal” chassis of the AG01 with a new “gray metal” case for the AG02 model.
Otherwise, the physical design is pretty similar. This is still a 225 x 110 x 60mm (8.9″ x 4.3″ x 2.4″) box with an exposed PCIe 4.0 x16 connector on the top, allowing you to plug a desktop graphics card directly into the top of the dock. Since the GPU isn’t enclosed by a case, there’s no need for additional cooling fans or any other hardware, but that also means that there’s nothing to block the sound made from the graphics card’s fans so noise levels will likely vary depending on the card you use.
While the new dock should work with higher-power graphics cards than the original, AOOSTAR doesn’t recommend using anything with higher performance than an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070S or AMD Radeon RX 7700XT, as the the bottleneck at that point would be the data throughput rather than the graphics card.
