Wimo informiert zum weiteren Vorgehen beim Firmwareproblem des #Anytone AT-890: Nach Einschalten erscheint Meldung „Flash error“, Funkgerät startet nicht. Problem scheint nur bestimmte Geräte zu betreffen.
Bis Anytone eine korrigierte Version veröffentlicht, empfehlen wir dringend, kein Update auf V1.03 durchzuführen. Für Kunden, die ihr Gerät derzeit nicht verwenden können, hat Anytone eine vorübergehende Lösung in Form eines Firmware-Updates „V1.04 BETA“ bereitgestellt. Download bei Wimo. -
Gerade habe ich von WIMO eine Update Warnung für das #Anytone 890 erhalten. Es sollen bis auf weiteres keine Updates installiert werden. Keine weiteren Hintergründe. #Amateurfunk

Couldn't sleep well tonight so I spent time to configure DMR on my #Anytone.
The first impression - setup is a bit confusing.
- There are digital contacts list, friends list, Contact/Talk groups list. Took a while to understand what are the differences and when to use one.
- Need to create a channel for each group, add channels to the zone, create a scan list for the zone (same as for analog setup).Managed to talk with Parrot and hear local group chat. Impressed by sound quality!

Can't find how to change APRS symbol on my #anytone D878 without connecting it to PC. Can't it be changed with radio only or do I miss something?

Finally found time to set up #APRS on my #Anytone D878!
- First TX went out with the wrong callsign (CPS had reset mine).
- Second TX had a weird symbol.

For some reason #baofeng can not break squelch of my #anytone on PMR466 frequencies. Only possible ways I've found are:
1. Completely turn off SQL level on AnyTone (not an option).
2. Configure PMR channels on AnyTone to use wide bandwith. Not the best option as well.Baofeng bandwith is set to narrow but probably that setting does not do much.

Things I've learned during the first day with #anytone AT-D878UV II Plus V2:
1. Radio arrives with pre-configured region and limited frequency ranges. For example, "Amateur Europe" region allows listening PMR466 feequencies but prevents TX. Regions can be changed easily 🤫
2. Noticed some menu items were missing after fiddling with regions. Later I've found there are Professional and Amateur modes of the radio. Amateur has more options ;-) Initially I thought it is vice versa. -
As a newbie #hamradio explorer, decided to get something better than Baofeng (known as "standard").
Motivation:
- Explore new areas such as #aprs
- Better channel management
- Improved audio
- And most important - simply wanted to see how the "proper", "better" and full-featured radio compares to a Baofeng.Since I usually do not know what I'm doing, didn't want to overspend. Ended up purchasing #anytone AT-D878UV II Plus V2 which arrived earlier this week!

Anytone AT-D878UVII Plus: DMR-трансивер из Поднебесной. На что он способен?
В следующем году первой версии стандарта DMR (Digital Mobile Radio) исполнится 20 лет. Если коротко о нем (подробности будут ниже), то DMR на аналоговом уровне — обычная узкополосная радиосвязь с частотной модуляцией. Ширина — 12,5 кГц, в него «вмещаются» два речевых канала. Сейчас на рынке полно различных DMR-радиостанций на любой вкус и кошелек. Выбирая трансивер, я попытался найти такой, который бы не уступал по возможностям профессиональным моделям от Hytera или Motorola. Но при этом и не стоил бы как чугунный мост. Некоторые радиолюбители обратили внимание на трансиверы Anytone и поделились положительными отзывами об их работе. Так что сегодня на обзоре — модель Anytone AT-D878UVII Plus. So, #HamRadio people, question for you!
This is an AnyTone 578UVIII PLUS. It's currently off. The activity light is blue. That's not ever described in the manual. That light goes cyan when receiving DMR, but not pure blue.
Furthermore, it only does this like a minute after I start the car. Only if the car has been idle for some time.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? This isn't documented, like, anywhere. It's one of those things where you search for it and it sounds like you're the only person in the world with the problem.

I updated the codeplug for my #Anytone 878 UV II Plus. Which reminded me that it really is a pretty solid radio. In fact, it's one of my favorites. Of course there are some quirks, but it works well, sounds great, and takes abuse. All for a bit more than half the cost of an FT-5 .

I recently acquired the Anytone BAT-878C via HamRadio Outlet, and upon further investigation you can't charge it with an A/C USB-C adapter, you have to use a computer or something with "data", because it doesn't accept "power delivery" according to:

The Panasonic FZ-G1 tablet looks pretty good there in my Crown Vic. Too bad I don't have any way to really mount it. and it covers the #Anytone microphone up just a little too much.

So, some notes:
Got my K1 cables for the #DigiRig today, meaning I should be able to have an audio I/F to most HTs. (And if they're RS-232 serial, I can program them too.) So I just did some low-power APRS testing... and sure enough, plug in the GT-5R and my 878 was decoding packets from it.
Only one issue: the AnyTone 878 doesn't PTT in the same way, apparently, so that's not doing anything. I guess that means this cable is Baofeng only... but you know, the GT-5R has "enough" filtering (certainly more than the UV-5R) and a portable APRS station is a portable APRS station. I think I can work with that.

So, this is fun.
#AnyTone D578 - the vehicle mobile version of the 878. Seems pretty nice, I think mine is just broken...
- Doing a test on FM simplex with a nearby 878, the 578 produced a signal that was barely audible... and the 878s don't have that quiet of a speaker at full volume.
- Doing that same test, the 578 was completely deaf to the 878's signal.
- A test with the #TinySA showed that the 578 on turbo power was marginally weaker than an 878 on turbo power
- Trying to test with a local repeater had no luck. Putting my 878 on reverse, showed a strong signal, but no audio - likely because it wasn't picking up the PL tone that I know was set correctly.
- Testing against my DMR hotspot worked flawlessly. So this all seems to be on the analog FM side not the DMR side.
This is the exact same antenna and antenna position that has been used on that very 878 with very good results... so I don't think it's the problem.

A few months ago, I dropped my Anytone ham radio handheld. It was immediately clear that I broke the antenna. A couple of days ago I finally had the energy to remove the broken antenna and today I tried turning it on with a different antenna on it. It works! As far as I can tell, it's just the antenna that got damaged.

It is more than I need, but it has the button. So, I bought it and swapped out the red button with my radio, as I didn't want to take my radio completely apart just to replace the button (as I'm not sure I could have put it back together)
And now I have extra buttons, in case I lose a different one.
