  1. I gotta vote on this. I was gonna see if I could find my #dioptase specimen just for the show off potential (it's not big but it is pretty), but eh.

I don't think I'm gonna get science-y on this matchup, bc come on, I know there's literal geologists and *chemical geologists* at that who weigh in on this every year who know it all better. Anyway I'm not over how guano is a key part of #ammineite and I don't think I ever will be, so 🤣. #MinCup24

  2. Sending #Ammineite some love in #MinCup24 ⚒️🧪

It's a amazingly rare mineral requiring a combination of copper mineralisation and nesting birds. It demonstrates the efforts the Universe goes to create fascinating complexity.

I'm also intrigued by the notation that somewhere out there this mineral may have formed with dinosaur poop... 🦕

  3. Not only was recently discovered, it's only been present for a short part of Earth history; it needs copper and guano in dry areas.

  4. #ammineite vs #perovskite... absolutely just for shits and giggles I'm team ammineite.

(Absolutely none of you can tell me that funny chaos doesn't count. Are we really living as adults if implied poop jokes aren't hilarious?) #MinCup23

  5. Mm I have been apparently Sleeping Wrong according to my neck and head (hypermobility problems 😩) so I'm slow on judging the chaos of #adamite vs #ammineite!

On the one hand, adamite is an arsenate mineral - fun, but deadly. (Also apparently a term for a certain type of nudist. 😅)

But ammineite is hella weird and neat and was the first scientifically recognized mineral of its family - and now there are Four Other ammine-based minerals, too! That's pretty chaotic, really. #MinCup23

  6. To sum up: #guano captured the attention (and sometimes the lives) of Incan rulers, industrial corporations, Black brotherhoods, exploited migrant workers, and the U.S. Supreme Court. The extra sparkle of #Ammineite adds the final shine, #MinCup voters!

Or, to quote the 1866 newspaper ad:
    Guano! Guano!! Guano!!!

    #histodons - vote #ammineite!

  7. #SayYesToBatPoop!

#Guano, one of the essential ingredients for #Ammineite, has an amazing (and terrible) history.

Featuring not just birds and bats, but kings and rebels, Black Mutual Aid organizations, and the U.S. Supreme Court...

  8. Today my vote is for #Adamite. The crystals are so colorful & varied coming in wedge-like prisms and radiating clusters & also smooth botryoidal masses, & bonus… it fluoresces! #Ammineite just looks like a bad snow cone that they didn’t quite get covered all the way with the blue syrup. #MinCup23

  9. is amazing -I learn of new ideas lurking in the science jungle...

forms from bird guano interacting with copper minerals -weird.

Hydrogen would be a useful fuel in the post-fossil fuel economy, but it's tough to store. Ammonia can store much more hydrogen, but is dangerously toxic. What about storing ammonia as a solid compound?
