  1. The world is again on fire but I take solace in my little success in software. A bubble for sure but also meaningful and satisfying.

I've added support for #AmazonLinux2 to #ImageGarden. The intent was originated by my colleague but his patches made my realize how terrible current codebase was, so I re-factored it a little and removed 2/3 of the code while making working with more systems way easier.

I can now test snaps on Amazon Linux, both edition 2 and 2023, both on my computer and in CI.

  5. Looking to move off #aws EC2 for simple personal hosting of #wordpress, #mailman and email, due to increasing costs. Locked in for a year or so, but later this year #amazonLinux2 goes out of support... so have to rebuild from scratch anyway

Saw @beasts Pi hosting, because #geek

Anyone used this for that ? Esp. any IPv4 issues. E.g. how well the IPv4 proxy for HTTP(S) and fetching email work, use of their backup MX for incoming from IPv4 hosts....

    Any gotchas ?

    #raspberryPi #linux #devops

Amazon Linux 2 is built from EL7/CentOS 7 roots. So you can use EPEL 7 fine. But it's coming. To EOL.

Amazon Linux 2023 is all their own. So you can only run what they build for you and there's no Amazon-Linux-Extras for newer python/node etc. So you will need to compile everything else from source yourself.

We're probably going AlmaLinux8/9 instead now.

  14. #AmazonLinux - all batteries included OS
    #AmazonLinux2 - alternative to alpine

Is that about right? Because it means there really isn't an upgrade path. When you attempt to move to AL2, you find out so much is missing it is like build-your-own OS.
