Guardian of the reef, Alor, Indonesia, June 2023
The sea tribe in Alor knows how to protect the sea. They use simple equipment to catch fish for their own needs, the rest they sell at market. With just one breath, they can dive for more than five minutes. Non-native people previously used fish bombs, but the local tribe replanted the reef and they are looking after the corals and other sea plants.

Indonesia’a Lesser Sunda Islands don’t see a lot of traffic by foreign travellers, which isn’t to say they’re not worth the effort. Here’s four happy snaps from #Alor, #Lembata, #Pantar and #Kepa (Kepa is a small islet off the west coast of Alor, and also home to one of my top five places to stay in all of Southeast Asia). #Indonesia #travel #islands
