Hill-climbing is an #algorithmic process attempting to solve #optimization problems. Optimization problems, like finding the shortest route between two points or the best way to pack packages in cars, can be viewed as trying to find the highest point in a hilly landscape.
It is trivial to find a point that's at least 50% as high as the highest point, and fairly easy to find one that's at least 80% as high as the highest point. But these solutions do not help in finding the highest point: you may be standing at the peak of a hill that is just not as tall as the tallest one, and knowing that provides you no information in finding the tallest one: it may even be a detour, trying to climb higher on the wrong hill, only to eventually have to climb down and find another hill altogether.
Sometimes you don't really need the highest hill. You just want to get up a bit for sun or air. Then finding the peak of a pretty high hill is fine. But sometimes you need to find the peak of the highest hill or at least get very close. Then all the easy methods don't help you at all: they are at best worthless, but are more likely to send you up the wrong hill, trying in vain to climb higher when the hill next to you or 5 hills away is just higher.

A lot of things matter to me in choosing what I work on, and who I work for. Money is one. It isn't the only one. It isn't even the most important one. I have an in-my-head sliding scale I use - the better your work matches my #ethical framework, the less #lucre it takes to convince me to help you.
So if you're using "AI" to build #algorithmic pricing systems to sell to companies so they can #gouge people needing services in their most #desperate hour? I *might* entertain a rate of $1000 per hour to shit on your head. There isn't enough #money in the world to get me to help you build that stuff.
On the other hand, if you're a small #company, selling actual #goods or #services to #customers who want and need them, as opposed to building something #shiny to attract the rubes so you can sell your audience to the #advertising industry? And you need a techie person?
