W kodzie aplikacji Mapy Google na Androida odkryto nową, nieaktywną jeszcze funkcję, która ma znacznie ułatwić wirtualne zwiedzanie okolicy.
Jak donosi serwis Android Authority, gigant z Mountain View pracuje nad przyciskiem „Aerial”, którego zadaniem będzie płynne przełączanie się między popularnym widokiem Street View a mapą satelitarną. To odpowiedź na dotychczasową, nieco uciążliwą nawigację między tymi dwiema warstwami.

Nowy przycisk ma rozwiązać problem, który zna wielu użytkowników planujących podróż. Obecnie, aby przejść z widoku ulicy do spojrzenia na okolicę z góry (i odwrotnie), trzeba wykonać serię kilku kliknięć, co bywa nieintuicyjne. Funkcja „Aerial” ma to zmienić. Po jej aktywacji, podczas korzystania ze Street View, na ekranie pojawi się dedykowany przycisk. Jedno dotknięcie wystarczy, aby błyskawicznie przełączyć się na widok satelitarny, który będzie wyświetlany w dolnej części ekranu, bez utraty orientacji w terenie.
Zgodnie z doniesieniami, mechanizm ma być bardzo praktyczny. Po przejściu do widoku z lotu ptaka (zarówno w trybie 2D, jak i 3D), aplikacja zapamięta dokładne miejsce, w którym użytkownik znajdował się w Street View. Dzięki temu powrót do perspektywy ulicy będzie natychmiastowy i precyzyjny. Ułatwi to planowanie trasy, odnajdywanie wejść do budynków czy po prostu sprawdzanie, jak wygląda najbliższe otoczenie interesującego nas miejsca.
Ślady nowej funkcji znaleziono w kodzie aplikacji Google Maps w wersji v25.39.07 na system Android. Choć deweloperom udało się ją uruchomić w celach demonstracyjnych, nie wiadomo jeszcze, kiedy Google zdecyduje się na oficjalne udostępnienie jej wszystkim użytkownikom. Fakt, że narzędzie jest już w pełni funkcjonalne, może jednak sugerować, że jego premiera jest stosunkowo blisko.
