  1. Directed an #Acting #Coaching client to choose the level of their character's mental illness for a take and we'd see if I could tell what they chose. To my surprise and joy, the impact on the final moments of the scene was terrifyingly new, and fascinating to discover.

  2. An #acting #coaching client used the emotional/physical reality of their own day as a starting point for their character, and it was so interesting and fun. I'm a big fan of starting with what you have, and where you are, and letting that be some great raw material.

  3. "It’s tough, acting. you have to walk two lines of a tightrope. there’s the all consuming fear of failure… and there’s also confidence – you have to be confident to try new things – And they fight each other all the time."

  4. Started some new material with an #acting #coaching client and seeing them finding new bits of business from the direction and then starting building out the character's moves and vibe in even the first few takes was so entertaining. Love my clients.

  6. "I actually think acting is a form of self-hypnosis. You have to be hyper, hyper aware of what's going on around you. You have to know where the lens is, what the shot is, and where you're moving. And then you have to trick yourself into an emotional state where you believe this stuff is actually happening."

  11. "You cannot try to 'get the job'. Just go in there, have some fun and do your version of that part. 'This is what I'm selling. If you want to buy it, that's cool. Have some adjustments for me? That's fine, I'll make some adjustments, but this is basically what I want to do.' THAT'S the attitude, sort of 'f*ck it' attitude. Not f*ck you...but, f*ck it."

  12. Built series of takes with #acting #coaching client. First, we clarified their want from the other character, then, added an extension: how they wanted what they wanted. For a third, added contempt for the other character's hesitance and compliance. Made cool layers.

  13. "If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them."

  15. Exploring a scene with an #acting #coaching client, we tried 3 different physical changes/postures. We discovered very cool changes in intention, the relationship and the whole tone, including a nice underlying friendship the characters have through it.

  17. "Everyone forgets comedians are actors. There's no question about it. A Robin Williams cannot say the same line every night for 40 weeks and make it sound fresh unless he's doing an acting job."

  18. "I think when you're just counting on your voice, you actually need double the energy. I find myself acting out the scenes and being very physical while I'm recording because I think you can tell when someone is just sitting on a stool."
