@lightweight
> the only ones with sufficient spoons to participate... is those with a vested interest, i.e. lobbyists who're getting paid. Their work is seldom in the public interest. But their influence is wildly disproportionateI was inspired to learn about the #Lobby99 project in Israel;
https://lobby99.org.il/en/guiding-principles/
The closest thing we have in Aotearoa is #ActionStation, but they're more of a local spinoff of MoveOn.org. I'd really like to help get a local Lobby99 equivalent up and running.

I just tried to sign the petition against the Treaty Principles Bill;

... but ...

WTSF people?!?
I've been privately emailing ActionStation about this kind of stuff for years. In 2024, exposing people to DataFarming by corporations when they sign political petitions is totally unacceptable.
Sort your f%&king sh$t out.

Another #ActionStation donor is described as;
"OPEN, an international sisterhood of organisations similar to ActionStation working to enable citizens to take action on and offline"

Quick smoke test of the #GTE #XT300E #ActionStation is a success!
More tinkering later when I have time to connect it to a phone line.

And there it is. The #GTE #XT300E #ActionStation
It did get a bit damaged in shipping but it looks like it's just part of the case that could be popped back into place.

It's scandalous that the NZ government is proposing to give more money to some beneficiaries than to others. If you can afford to donate towards the cost of running a formal poll on what the public thinks of this discriminatory policy, see here:

Please consider signing this #ActionStation petition calling on the #NZ government to to make sure every #kiwi is securely housed during level 4 restrictions. They have proposed a series of measures, including having the government buy unoccupied houses for conversion into #PublicHousing:

I recently read this 2013 article by #JohnStauber, one of the founders of the Centre for Media and Democracy, which runs #SourceWatch.org, about corporate funding of the astroturf "Progressive Movement":
https://www.counterpunch.org/2013/03/15/the-progressive-movement-is-a-pr-front-for-rich-democrats/He mentions #MoveOn.org, which gets me wondering about where the #NZ equivalent, #ActionStation.org.nz, gets its funding from. According to its own site, there are some eerier parallels:

@natecull totally agree. I've been making these same points in debates with the #ActionStation folks (see the recent #OpenLetter posts on the #Disintermedia blog). Like you, I see people who ought to know better, making arguments that seem to assume right-wing populism is a new problem caused by #InternetFreedom (it isn't). I suspect the flames of a moral panic are being intentionally fanned, with the goal of suppressing not right-wing populism, but left-wing radicalism:

As I said in my #OpenLetter to #ActionStation:
https://www.coactivate.org/projects/disintermedia/blog/2019/03/17/a-second-open-letter-to-actionstationorgnz/"Arguably, it is as a consequence of the erosion of civil liberties in democratic countries since 9/11 that we have seen the rise of toxic enthno-nationalism and its associated violence, not as a result of too much of the wrong kinds of speech."
Nor as a lack of always-on mass surveillance of the whole population. Anyone who wants that is welcome to move to China, they always need more English teachers ...
