  1. @JonathanAldrich @cxli Ah so here is an ACM-published paper that includes a lit review: dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.1145/340

I would love it if the authors' annotations were available through the #ACMDL and linked to papers, supporting queries like, "get all of the empirical papers that don't involve human subjects."

  6. @cxli Interestingly, this study (conducted in 2019) reports that the #ACMDL allows bulk download. I don't know if this feature is just hard to find or if it's been removed since then.

    (Maybe @JonathanAldrich would know?)

  11. @cxli For context: the #acmdl frictions make systematic reviews painful. It feels borderline unusable as a research tool and is incomplete.

#googlescholar is more complete, but the accuracy of the metadata drops off. I've found that historic searches (e.g., <1950) are mostly incorrectly dated.

I was curious whether this is corroborated by research and came across: pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/

  16. "As of January 1, 2026, #ACM completed its transition to full #openaccess: all ACM-published articles and related research artifacts in the DL are freely available worldwide without barriers to reading or reuse. This is a significant step forward for the #computing field and reflects years of planning, collaboration, and input from across the community. Few scholarly societies have undertaken a transition of this scale, and we’re all proud to be leading the way and expanding access to computing #research globally." 🥳

    #ACMDL = dl.acm.org/

For example, you can find my CHI paper on #tagging via dl.acm.org/action/doSearch?All (or karl-voit.at/tagstore/en/paper for all of my #filemanagement papers including the PhD thesis)

Many advanced features are available with "DL Premium" only though.

  21. The ACM Digital Library has officially transitioned to full Open Access.

The DL is the heart of the ACM community, which is why your feedback on its recent evolution is so vital. In this letter, President Yannis Ioannidis provides the context for the transition and affirms that we are evaluating the DL experience based on your input.
