As a few citations of my publications trickle through, I am becoming increasingly aware of being cited out of context.
I've often seen this practice in student writing - where a sentence from a source is cherry-picked by the student to back a point, yet the original text was arguing the very opposite - but noticing that published authors are also citing out of context is disheartening.
How frequently does this happen to you? And does it matter?
