  1. Turns out the probably 10-15 year old 20 L drum of THF that seems to have never been opened but still looks to be no more than 1/2 full is, in fact, peroxide free! #realtimechem #lablife

  6. Then securities first aid people needed someone to open the door for the paramedic so I went back outside and waited for them. That took forever but I had some nice time filling in the university safety people on what was going on while waiting

  11. What happened: Student got MnO2, carbon black and isopropyl alcohol in their eye. Went to washroom to wash it out, lab manager got them to eyewash and got me, I called security and then while waiting outside to escort them to the lab, called the department safety guy, who called the university safety people (or security did?)

Then I printed it the MnO2 and carbon black SDS as they were having trouble finding them and made sure they would go along with him wherever he wound up.

  16. I do not get why people keep coming to me in emergencies.

All I do is go "Have you used $emergency equipment" and pushing the button to summon campus first aid.

And yet it keeps happening! YOU CAN PUSH THE CALL FIRST AID BUTTON YOURSELF! IT'S RIGHT THERE

  21. I say this as I wait outside my building to open the door for the paramedics, please wear your goddamn fucking safety goggles while in the lab

    #RealTimeChem

Edit: He seems fine, was sitting with the paramedic waiting for transport to the hospital to get a doctor to check his eye out to be sure

  31. #RealTimeChem cycling an all-iron flow battery!!

First few "cycles" are oxidizing sacrificial excess ascorbic acid added to reduce initial Fe (III) present and minimize ambient oxygen. Charged 2 mAh and discharged until discharge capacity approached 2 mAh as ascorbic acid was oxidized. Now going to higher capacities 🤞 #battery #OpenSource #OpenSourceHardware

  41. I made mistake of complaining today was going to be a boring day at work.

I just had to send out an email declaring a lab closed, because due to the wild under pressure inside that room there's a decent chance you wouldn't be able to open the door if there was a fire.

You can see how well that boring day is going.

    It was fine. Dammit.
