It's #MosconiCup time again and this year it's being held in Alexandra Palace. A bit of a step up from York Hall where we went to watch the annual tournament a couple of times many years ago.

In from too many long disco songs at the pub and one slightly TMI confession from the barmaid who'd clearly had a few, but a lovely evening. US Open 9-Ball pool final on and it's America versus America. We'd like America to win this one, but more specifically Shane Van Boening as he always comes across as a decent bloke. Not looking good for him, though.

13-12 win to Gorst over Filler. Great contest, but felt that Filler had a couple of periods where he threw games away. Never ceases to surprise me just how generally slow the players are these days, though. Years ago we sat a few metres away from Earl Strickland running a rack and he only stopped moving while waiting for the cue ball to get around to where he was waiting for it on the next shot.

Pretty sure that the Venn diagram intersection of "Mastodon Users" and "People who like to watch 9-Ball Pool" contains me and maybe two other people who never post, but you know what, I'm going to share something anyway. Currently watching the World Pool Masters final and Germany's Joshua Filler is making some great shots like this jump, 6-ball bank, and pot of the 9-ball.

Ridiculous amount of #sports on TV today. Wife watched the #NRL games early on then some #IPL #cricket. After I'd finished work it was time for some #9Ball in the World Pool Masters until the Premier League of #Darts started. Just watched the #SuperLeague match between St Helens and Huddersfield and it's back to the darts once more until that finishes. The #NFL draft coverage has started too, but that's just a glorified raffle with stupid salaries and pressure the only prizes.

Quick search to see if anyone's watching the #MosconiCup and, nope. Just me a year ago, and likely just me this year too. A lone, annual 9-ball pool competition fan on this big, wide Fediverse.

US Open Pool Final coming to an end soon - possibly - with Ko Ping Chung on the hill now, 12-6 up. We've just seen that the trophy is in the shape of the contiguous states of America. I like a trophy that says "Yeah, this is an American trophy! A pre-1959 American trophy! Fuck you Alaska and Hawaii!"

We quite often support teams or players in sports based on whether we've been to their countries and how much we liked visiting there. Watching the US Open 9-Ball Pool championship right now. Fedor Gorst (Russia (but no Russian flag shown against his name (for reasons))) against Ko Ping Chung (Taiwan). Tricky. We've been to both and loved both. How do we pick? Mountain tea house versus front row seats at the the ballet? Huge spiders versus terrible vodka?

Crazy stuff going on in the World Pool Masters right now with Austrian player Max Lechner having had three golden breaks in the first six racks. Currently 5-1 up over Mohammed Soufi. Earlier match saw my wife's crush, Neils Feijen, come back from 5-1 down to knock out top seed Joshua Filler.

Here's an Asian American sports icon that few people remember:
Jeanette Lee, a Korean American woman, born in Brooklyn who dominated the WPBA -- Women's Professional Billiards Association -- for about 10 years between 1996-2006.
A documentary of her life called "Jeanette Lee vs." directed by Ursula Liang was just released by ESPN.
She was well known for her looks and as a fierce 9 ball competitor. Her nickname was The Black Widow.
