My point is not GoF research would stop the 1977 flu.
My point is that banning "dangerous" science wouldn't help, and might make it worse.
The #1977flu was PROBABLY caused by research being done in #secret without international collaboration.
If had - for example - a grant front the NIH - we would know what was happening where, and be more likely to contain any accidents.
