We had another #FermeScholen student conference on vegetable #fermentation and #microbial_literacy. Last weeks experience gave us a bit more peace of mind to enjoy it even more ourselves. Students were more rowdy but positively rowdy. An auditorium filled with young bulls. Lots of shouty fun!
Our own students, who helped us out with the project this entire year, dropped off a pie. Really it's them who should get the praise for being such motivated

Todays kids got slightly wet. Talked about pumps, centrifugal, peristaltic, elro... And about internal combustion, power transfer,... Then we went to the pool for some practice: koots roosting, frogs mating and sunbathing, algae,... So we covered the biology topics too.

Did a thing yesterday. 175 teenagers, 12 #teachers, 30 microbiologists, a nurse and a pro cook celebrated the first #FermeScholen conference on food #fermentation and microbial literacy. Properly opened by a vice dean, keynote by prof. Sarah Lebeer, plenary session, fun workshops, conference swag and poster session with fancy drinks.
Kids loved it, workshoppers had a blast, our student poster jury did a fab job... 10/10 will do it again. Next week. #highereducation #Citizenscience #microbiology -

Nou! #Scienceville voor kinderen op #Docville : wat een fijn festivalletje! Toffe workshops, fijne doe- en maakdingen! Best spannend om het podium te delen met Maarten Larmuseau (een échte prof, met supercool stamboomonderzoek!) maar altijd fijn als de goesting voor #wetenschap zo de zaal in spat!
Ik onthoud alvast: ook vikinghelden waren soms vrouwen. Dan komt dat in de wetenschap én bij de brandweer ook wel goed.
