I was going to gripe and ask if “Naatu Naatu” would have been nominated if it weren’t for its fantastical staging in the film. But looking at the other nominees…
The Diane Warren, Rihanna and Lady Gaga songs were all the same generic ballad. EEAAO’s “This Is A Life” was a beautiful song that reflected the movie’s grand themes, but ran only during the closing credits. So “Naatu Naatu” really is the most interesting musical moment in 2022 movies.

Funky Winkerbean has been a strange daily comic strip for the past 10 years or so. Part gag strip, part soap opera, you never knew exactly what direction a story arc might take. When the strip took another one of its time jumps last week, following a mother and daughter in the far future, it didn’t seem out of place. But I learned just today that Saturday’s strip was the last. Creator Tom Batiuk has decided to retire the 50 year old strip.
