  1. Stephen Jolly is clearly feeling the heat from the Yarra bicycle community.
Reversing on removing the Coppins St bike infrastructure and instead making it permanent, announcing things the previous council already announced (Wellington St up to Alexandra Pde) and committing to some things that probably aren't possible (extending Elizabeth St protected bike lane down Baker St and a protected bike lane on Langridge St, protected Wellington St lane up to Queens Pde)

  2. Happy #DEC10! In this view of the Princeton University Computer Graphics Laboratory, the PDP-10 is on the right, and the LDS-1 on the left. The PDP-10 featured Dectapes, TTY terminals, 256K of 36-bits-per-word hand-wound memory and a paper tape reader. The laboratory was sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, under the direction of Professor Robert Langridge. [From Miami Jack on Flickr]

  11. the live BBC iPlayer view has a thing to set playback speed. I tried setting it to 2× to make the endlessly boring #Eurovision scores thing go faster but it didn't work

  12. OK, that's all of it.
The voting period is absolutely interminable and I may not stick it out to the end, but we'll see
My #Eurovision votes (not actual votes, no of course I'm not going to download your app and pay money to vote, are you high) to:

    Albania
    Australia
    Croatia
    maaaaaybe Cyprus

which means I have just condemned all four of them to ignominious defeat since nobody I like ever wins. Sorry about that, those four

  14. Looking it up, the Austrian #Eurovision guy has that blue star over his eye the whole time, not just for this show. Interesting choice. Fair play to him.
German proves itself to be a brilliant language to listen to but as unmusical as ever, I'm afraid.
I would be very surprised if they retain the title
    #Eurovision

  15. Romania is... Shakespeare's Sister if one of them were a Bene Gesserit. Too much shrieking, though #Eurovision

  16. OK, the Norway entry is something. The guitars make it sound like the White Stripes (sort of) and the bloke's voice is not too bad (although he struggles a bit) and we dig the beardy bald guitar guy, but the singer looks such a pillock. The band get the points for looking like they're actually enjoying it, though #Eurovision

  17. oh what I miss a couple of songs to get another and NOW you do a break where Barry tries to entertain the audience and dies on his arse? Poor planning, #Eurovision

  18. caught the beginning of Sweden (unexcited) and the end of Cyprus (Cypriot Shakira! I quite dig that).
Italian guy has an excellent suit on. I wish I could get away with stuff like that but I'd look like I lost my way to a karate class from Lidl. Song is not too bad, but that's just because if someone read a software EULA in Italian it'd sound cool
    #Eurovision

  19. can't think of anything much to say about Lithuania.
Except... is that a tear of sheer emotion?
or that the poor bloke is sweating to absolute death with all the silver paint on?
    #Eurovision

  20. There's always someone who raises the question: should #Eurovision songs be songs that would just probably be fine in the charts? Poland, you have come through for us, thank you for that. This is unexceptional; it sounds like something you'd hear on the radio. It's not bad, don't get me wrong, but... shouldn't songs here play up to being here specifically? rather than just taking something you'd put out as a single and performing it here? I am never sure.

  21. #Eurovision has a nice line in good-looking bearded guys this year it seems, and respect to the violinist for refusing to mime playing, good on you. On the other hand you lose all accumulated points for those boots which look like they're about to unpeel at any moment. The song (from Finland) is... well, it's a song

  22. Moldova have a guy called "Satoshi"? #Eurovision
what, the bitcoin guy? is he that hard up?
Anyway, we do not like the "pretend to be football hooligans shouting in the street" chorus, but Graham Norton's right, it's catchy. And it's a bit novelty, but they're obviously having a laugh which is always nice to see. Welcome to Moldova!
I mean, it's gonna get about eight votes

  23. Ah, la France. I always want to like the French entry (favourite #Eurovision song ever: Voila by Barbra Previ) but... this is stretching it a bit. It's musical enough, and she's a decent singer, but... the bits where she goes "time for a bit of opera now" are not ideal, and the song's just not that punchy, despite striving for Dramatic Moments and falling a bit short
