Oh boy… I realize a lot of people, particularly non-F1 fans, really enjoyed #F1TheMovie a lot, and I’m glad. But for me it was one of the worst movies I’ve seen the past few years. I thought the incredibly boring Napoleon was better.
I’ve been a Formula 1 fan since shortly after Niki Lauda’s awful crash at the Nürburgring and shortly before Tom Pryce’s horrifying crash at Kyalami. To me Sonny Hayes was a dick, and the rest of the F1 administration were idiots. And Brad Pitt’s acting — I didn’t even know what I was watching.

After Cristina Rad’s accusations about #LawrenceKrauss I was happy to reject him for good even though I'd enjoyed his debates on religion.
But I never knew what to do with #RichardDawkins. Certainly people I respected in turn respected him, his work seemed quite perceptive, and his debates with theists were incisive and civil.
But he also behaved in ways I found bizarre, and I was left just appreciating his good work but not amplifying him in any way because I didn’t know who I would have been amplifying.
Now I do.

Interesting article from 2013:
“Even [Michael] Shermer must concede that the people he is talking about are ‘far-left progressives.’ What power do they have? Whom do they influence? Who listens to them? Well, no one, really.
“On the Right, however, not only have the nutcases taken over the GOP, they essentially *are* the #GOP. Climate denial is the sine qua non of GOP leadership. In the 2010 election cycle, for example, not a single Republican nominee for a Congressional seat was willing to accept the theory of anthropogenic climate change.” — Jonathan Zasloff
#MichaelShermer has been a big voice in the skeptical community that I consider myself a part of, but AFAICT his greatest talent is tiling at windmills.

“Research from the Public Religion Research Institute and other experts shows that a large plurality — in some surveys, a substantial majority — of White American Christians exhibit authoritarian personality traits and reject pluralism and multiracial democracy. This is true of Trump MAGA voters, and of Republicans and conservatives more broadly.”

Well, don’t tell Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, or George Washington.
And Jews are just not welcome here. Where have we heard that before?

Interesting #ChatGPT interaction on #MartyMakary. I asked who he was and concluding the long response it said: “Dr. Marty Makary is best understood as a system insider who refuses to play along quietly. He uses credentials, data, and institutional access to criticize the very structures that gave him authority.”
I then had a series of interaction noting Makary’s many lies about what health-care workers say, his many lies about childhood disease consequences, and his adjacency to #RFKjr.
ChatGPT then ended with: “Marty Makary is a surgeon who once made legitimate critiques of health-care systems, but who has since lost credibility in vaccine and infectious-disease discussions by repeatedly minimizing well-documented risks, making factually incorrect claims about childhood diseases, and aligning with anti-vaccine narratives without correcting errors. He is no longer regarded as a reliable medical authority in these domains."

A nicely done video about Henry Gunther, officially the last Allied soldier to die in #WW1, having been shot during an inexplicable solo charge at the Germans at 10:59 a.m., a minute before #armistice took effect.
Note there is a little bit of dispute, some giving credit to Frenchman Augustin Trébuchon as the last Allied soldier to die before armistice, and that Gunther had died at 10:44.
