  1. Some planes stopped by at the general aviation airport we live near

  2. It's great to see another CAC Boomerang return to the sky with tests flights of A46-54 (VH-MHB) earlier this year.

Some great footage of this aircraft here.

  3. Shiny things that I have seen today at Fredericksburg T82 :-) #avgeek #airplanes #warbirds

  4. Finished my day of #Xplane #flightsim flying at Madera Municipal Airport. This is where I soloed, so it holds a special place in my logbook.

Interesting find on the ramp. You just don't see a Cessna T-41 Mescalero every day.

"The Cessna T-41 Mescalero is a military version of the popular Cessna 172, operated by the United States Air Force (USAF) and Army, as well as the armed forces of various other countries as a pilot-training aircraft."

  5. This hour's random desktop background image on my #MacbookPro is this great shot (not mine) of the B-25 bomber "Betty's Dream" parting the hair of beachgoers at Maho Beach on the Caribbean island of Sint Maarten.

If you do not know about Maho Beach, it is one tiny two-lane road away from the runway end at the island's major airport. Everything from bizjets to 747s come in VERY low over the beach. And when they take off, the jet blasts literally blows people into the water.

  6. Last weekend I was very happily sweating my ass off at KJEF during our annual Show Me State Air Show. It was soooo freaking hot out there on the ramp, but man is it fun directing these beasts. Occasionally, I cop a ride. Yeehaw!! #aviation #avgeek #warbirds #flight

  7. AINOnline.com has a great article in their September print issue on the resurrection and restoration of "Doc," the B-29 we all know and love. Certainly a few things in this one I did not know...worth your time.

Here's a look at the article (not behind a paywall as far as I can tell).

  8. One of the many youtube channels I follow is Hawker Typhoon Legacy, a Canadian guy and his dad and they are rebuilding a Hawker Typhoon (edit: flying example) airplane! Really nice nerdy technical stuff on metal forming and airplane building.

  9. This WWII vintage Link trainer, is the only Warbird I can honestly claim to have flown. My high-school had one almost exactly like this, lovingly restored and fully operational. It's a full motion flying simulator (instruments only, thus the blacked out canopy), and effectively driven by an analog computer. An amazing piece of technology.

  10. Tigermoth playing with a toilet roll

Just a joy to watch. Both days were perfect for this

  11. F35 Lightning II never fails to impress

I managed to catch the hatch where the flares are released momentarily open here

  12. I just backed Lumberjills, a larp about the Women's Timber Corps, their joy, competence and friendships. It describes itself as "Feel-Great Play", and I'm here for that.

  13. A Douglas TBD Devastator torpedo bomber dropping a Mk 13 torpedo. These aircraft featured cutting edge technology when they began service in 1937 on US Navy carriers.

Aircraft tech advanced so fast they were obsolete within four years. Their slaughter at Midway retired them. #WW2 #history #aviation #warbirds

  14. This is "Show Me", The Commemorative Airforce Missouri Wing's B-25 Mitchell bomber. It's a gorgeous photo, showing her under tow by an orange-red tractor, which plays off the orange-red engine nacelles.

I can't find any source for this photo, which I saved to my photos in November 2015. If anyone knows who should have credit for this, please let me know? LOVE IT!
